Found this plant grow right next to two of my tomato plants. It's growing faster than the other plants, which is making me doubt if it's a weed. This is my first year into gardening. Also I've tried to compost some vegetable scrap and added that into these pots once it was fully decomposed. So it could be from any of the seeds? Live in Southern Ontario.

Any idea what this could be?

If you’ve used compost there’s a very very good chance it’s actually a potato. Alternately, it could be an extra tomato seedling coming up. I grow a few potato-leaved varieties and sometimes that variegation happens naturally. But given how thick the leaves are and the fact you used compost, I’m pretty sure it’s a potato. As long as there’s an eye that’s in good condition, potatoes will start to grow. Even if they’ve been stuck in the compost all winter.

  2. You should easily be able to loosen the soil and separate out this potato plant from the tomato plant and replant it somewhere else. Both plants are pretty hardy about being transplanted

Potato plants can sometimes start from potato peels.

They’ll be ready to harvest in ~100 days from when it was planted so my guess is about 80-90days from here

Tomatoes and potatoes don’t love being neighbors, maybe gently remove the potato and give it”s own pot
