I loved mowing patterns in the past, but having the robot free up my weekends and remove the worry of rain complicating my lawncare schedule is a much bigger win.

  1. I always preferred this look to stripes. Stripes make the yard look strange, almost fake. Maybe it’s because I grew up looking at unkempt pastures. I recognize I’m in the minority on this one!

What’s your fertilizer schedule (brand, etc)?

Beautiful. How high do you mow? I’m in Montreal and feel like I’m going too short (2 inches).

Takes no more effort to stripe a lawn than it does to mow in circles🤷🏼‍♂️

I don’t understand the stripe obsession, I let my lawn grow out a bit and mulch it high, love that feeling of fresh grass under the feet.

I wish I would have taken a picture of my yard before I started working on it. New build house with a new lawn they didn’t guarantee the grass as they repeatedly said.

I figured out why after about 3 months of being here. You guys wouldn’t be thinking about mow lines at that point. I’m pretty sure 60% of that “soil” was grubs and the other 40 percent weed seed.

The guy across the street from me hired a professional company to come fix his. I’m determined mine will look better than his without a professional company.

You’re using the Scott’s broom obviously.

  9. Don’t get me wrong. Stripes look good but it’s not really about the stripes.
1.You mow back and forth because it’s the most efficient way to mow grass.
2.You change directions because it’s the healthiest thing for the grass.
    3. most cool season grasses get mowed high to help with root growth and more leaf surface to build resilience in summer heat and drought.

If you do all these things and keep your lawn watered with the right amount of nutrients and sharp blades… you get stripes.

I upset a lot of people one time telling them I mow from the middle of my lawn out doing wider and wider circles then clean up the corners. It’s faster. No constant turning around at the sides of my lawn.

  11. I knew immediately that this was robot work. we also have a robot. its nearly silent, doesn’t harm animals, and keeps the grass healthier by just cutting a tiny bit off the top every day.

Do you know what type of grass you have and how you dont have red thread right now? Im in CT with creeping red fescue and the fungus is a disaster right now 😭

Nice even color! Mowing is sometimes the little bit of exercise I get, but I can totally understand the time suck. I switch up the patterns but I don’t have any kind of striping kit. Just some variety.

A few years ago I used the height settings to cut a giant penis into a long stretch of my property. My hope was to one day see it on Google Earth. It never happened, and I eventually lost interest. That’s the closest I ever came to patterns. I get why people do the stripes, a well striped lawn looks nice. It’s not for me though.

  15. The landscaper did when we started. Is now touched up with Lesco Team Mates

So you’ve got to love it when you finish the one at the far end from where you need to put your mower away and there’s that one track headed back in that direction through the grass.

    Been there. Done that.

  17. siege_meister

Same. Always freshly mowed with no effort > stripes

  18. Ted_Stark

There’s nothing low-effort about that lawn. Great work

  19. Thank you.

I love my lawn, but I also have a job. Maybe someday I’ll have that type of time but for now I can’t put 20 hours/week into lawn care

    Respect to the sweepers tho
