MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – Students from Bothwell Middle School dedicated part of their Friday to help beautify part of Marquette.

The Marquette Beautification and Restoration Committee held its annual Petunia Pandemonium. Seventh-graders had a blast while planting flowers along the side of Lakeshore Boulevard and Front Street.

Organizers say $500,000 has been spent on this annual project, including funding two $60,000 irrigation systems.

Two students say this project is fun, and it benefits the city.

“I am probably the most excited about not being in the classroom and just being out here and planting flowers,” Bothwell 7th grader Nora Kretozic said.

“I think that this will attract a lot more tourists, which will make the business boom, and that’s what I’m kind of excited for,” Bothwell 7th grader Jacob Lyons said.

On Saturday, the committee is inviting the public to plant flowers on Furnace Street and Genesee Street.

They also say there will be a free pizza picnic to follow for all volunteers in front of McCabe’s.
