ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Around 15 Lifescape Community Services volunteers work with Home Depot to plant garden boxes for older adults in need.

Beginning at 8 a.m. May 29, Lifescape volunteers chose supplies and tools from Home Depot at 1580 W. Lane Road in Machesney Park to fill garden boxes with flowers or vegetable plants.

Volunteers loaded up the supplies and brought them to the assigned homes, where they built and planted the boxes. Each volunteer visited 2-3 homes, helping a total of 20 older adults that are current Lifescape clients.

“We want them to be able to grow something they’ll actually love and want, but maybe something they’ve never been able to grow or do by themselves,” said Carli Jonet, Volunteer Director at Lifescape. “We’re able to give them something they can put right on their porch, they don’t have to put it on the ground or bend over.”

The flowers, seeds and tools were provided through a grant from The Home Depot Foundation.
