Members of a Northumberland community have pulled together after a devastating blaze tore through several allotments in Prudhoe over the weekend. Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service were altered to the Allotment site on Eastwoods Road after a fire broke out on Friday, May 23.

Owners who maintained plots at the Eastwoods Park site in Northumberland have been left reeling after the fire ripped through their ‘pride and joy’ plots. Entire contents of sheds on the allotment site including gardening equipment, fertilisers, and compost were among the items destroyed by the blaze.

Following the blaze, Prudhoe North and Wylam Cllr Lawrence O’Donnell posted a Facebook appeal on Saturday morning, asking for volunteers from the community to help clear up the rubble and damage left over from the wreckage.

After a generous outpouring of support, Cllr O’Donnell told ChronicleLive: “I would firstly like to say a big thank you to Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service for tackling the blaze and ensuring it didn’t spread any further.

“It is devastating and my heart goes out to the allotment holders that have been affected. People have really pulled together to help clear the site and it makes me incredibly proud to see the fantastic community response. Tyne Valley Garden Centre in Mickley have also been incredibly generous in offering supplies.”
