I am planning to DIY build a conservatory onto my house, and I would like opinions on things to keep in mind. It will be built out of 3 identical 11.5m2 Uranus greenhouses from Vitavia. I have experience building one greenhouse from Vitavia, the 13 m2 Sirius model, and it was in my opinion a great experience and quality so I would like to attempt this "Frankenstein" of a project. I have attached my concept renderings of the project, as well as a markup of the modular pieces going into it (red: side wall 1, blue: roof piece, yellow: side wall 2). Finally I have attached photos of the Uranus greenhouse from Vitavia.

The greenhouse is essentially modular during the construction process and connecting the sections Into this larger construction should be simple. However, I am considering how to keep the 8 meter roof stable – I was considering bolting 2m metal trims onto the middle section inside and out, but would you have any ideas of better solutions? Do you think a center column is necessary?

Thanks

What concerns me is the roof angled towards your house. If it’s adjacent to a house, the roof needs to be pitched away from the house. Otherwise, water will have a nice fine point in which to attack your foundation. Also it’s going to look horrible on that side being so close. Forget lawn debris and spiders, hope that you don’t get mice and or snakes by providing such a safe and long shelter.

  2. I would love to speak to you easy-career9582. I’m looking to build a similar structure. Where do you live?

I built a fourseasons solarium for my house and its all double pane safety glass with condensation gutters. It’s so good i turned it into a 2nd living room. They are worth checking out and fairly easy to put together. Just need to learn how to glaze. You should check the out and i think they are customizable.

I love the idea, but I think you need a civil/structural engineer, because I doubt the components of the kits were so over-engineered that they could safely be modified to handle the stresses you’re planning.
