Hey there, I'm very new to all this so please 🐻 with me.

We have had to relocate our septic drain field. The drain field itself is located at the far end of this picture.

I've gone to a few local nurseries about what native options one could use for ground cover and received the suggestions of clover or wildflower mixes/with grass. I'm not opposed to native wild flowers etc as long as it can help prevent erosion all year long.

The area is shaded by trees, there just one spot that does receive some direct southern sun. But mostly it's a shady area with no foot traffic. I'm fine planting a variety of things in these different microbioms.

Ideally – I'm looking for something easy. Right now I do not have the time or resources to turn this area into a beautiful cultivated garden space (as I've seen many do here). My best hope scenario is to chaos sow natives in.

Key points: area receives no foot traffic, parts of it will be getting consistently wet, chaos sowable.

  1. What would you suggest for this location? Only one portion will be the actual drain field.

  2. Where can I find seed? I have checked the nolawns wiki and for my area and, unless I'm mistaken, they don't sell actual seed from those sources.

  3. This is a woody area- anything to help deter ticks?

    Thanks in advance.
