A vibrant and colourful garden is something many  gardeners set out to achieve for the summer, with efforts being made months in advance. However, for those who are not quite as good with high-maintenance plants, or don’t feel as though they have enough gardening skills, that dream of a beautiful, lush garden can easily be shattered.

Fortunately, that doesn’t have to be the case as you can still achieve a stunning outdoor space full of flowers, without a lot of work. Drought-tolerant flowers are low maintance plants that will make your garden just as beautiful whilst saving you plenty of watering time, and online parenting community Net Mums, has shared the plant that every gardeners should get planting.

According to the online group, “in the summer, drought-tolerant flowers thrive with minimal care”, which they say is “perfect for busy schedules”.

The website reads: “Drought-resistant plants are designed to thrive in dry soil, full sun and limited fuss. Many of them attract pollinators, resist pests, and bring bold colour to your borders without demanding much in return.”

And Blanket Flowers, also known as gaillardia, are the perfect example of this. The beautiful and bold flowers are a great addition to any garden, and the flowers being low maintenance is all the more reason that gardens should hurry and get planting.

“Sun-loving and sand-friendly, this daisy-like flower thrives even in poor soil. With bright red, yellow or orange blooms, it adds bold colour to beds and borders – and butterflies can’t resist,” it reads.

The easy-to-grow and maintain flowers can grow to a maximum height of between 60cm and 90cm, depending on the type, and produces blooms in various shades including orange, red, yellow, white, purple, and peach, perfect for the sunny season.

Home imrpovement website, The Spruce, shared the main requirments for growing these beautiful flowers. They include, planting the flowers in full sun and in poor but well-draining soil, watering the soil to moisten it, but ensuring that it is not oversaturated.

Gardeners should also note that blanket flowers tolerate extreme temperatures, and should avoid feeding the flowers fertilisers and go easy on food.
