There’s a lot of schlepping involved in gardening, whether it’s enormous bags of mulch and soil, rocks, pots, or tools. The result — a beautiful garden that you can admire all spring and summer long — is worth it, but it does take a good amount of elbow grease to get it there. I have it on good authority from my mom and grandma, who are the best gardeners I know.
There are items to help with the heavy lifting; wheelbarrows are what immediately come to my mind. However, when I visited my mom’s house this past weekend, I noticed her using something else to carry things around her yard. The Suncast Portable Garden Cart, which is available at The Home Depot and Walmart, functions like a wheelbarrow, but it’s far less bulky and way easier to manage.

What Is the Suncast Portable Garden Cart?
Toting around your gardening tools and supplies will be so much less painful once you add this cart to your kit. The weather-resistant plastic bucket, which can hold 15 gallons, sits on top of two 7-inch wheels. Those are supported by metal axles, so they won’t buckle under heavy weight. Paired with the adjustable handle, transporting everything from gear to waste will be a breeze.
Better yet, you can use it for other things beyond gardening. If you need to wash your car, you can fill the bucket with water and soap, or if you’re having a party in your backyard, you can load it up with ice and turn it into a cooler.

Why My Mom Loves the Suncast Portable Garden Cart
According to my mom, taking bags of mulch and soil from her car to her garden has never taken less effort. She says it’s remarkably easy to roll — across uneven grass and gravel as well as concrete — even when it’s holding two hefty bags. She also turns it into a waste bin for branches and other debris whenever she’s cutting branches or cleaning up after a storm.
Not to mention, when she isn’t putting it to good use, storing the cart is simple. You can keep your garden tool bag inside the container and tuck it into a corner of your garage, or simply leave it out in the open in your backyard. It’s definitely durable enough for that.
If my mom’s recommendation isn’t enough — it should be! — there are over 600 shoppers on The Home Depot’s website that confirm this tool pulls its weight. “They are a staple at my barn for cleaning stalls,” says one review. “They are light enough to lift into the manure spreader and hold a lot. They are durable and will last me several years before I have to replace them.”
