For some miraculous reason I have kept my string plants alive (knock on wood) but feel like they are barely surviving. What advice do you have to help me help these babies thrive!?
Smaller, shallower (preferably terracotta) pots no larger than 1” up from the root ball. Make sure your soil is 50/50 inorganic grit to soil. Lay the SOP over the top of the soil and let them root – they’ll grow more strings and have a nice full top.

I can’t answer for all of them, but the string of turtles might like a smaller pot with holes in it. Mine like to dry out a little bit before the next watering. It happens to love light too, so a bright spot would not hurt!
They are alive, there is hope! 😁

Are they getting enough sunlight on the top of the plant? Feel like some lack light so the leaves died and it became bald on the top.
