A Teesside garden centre is set to host a free gardening workshop on a ‘timeless favourite’ plant.
Dobbies Garden Centres in Stockton will be running a Grow How workshop this June, focused on roses.
The workshop will provide valuable advice on caring for these beloved flowering plants, covering all aspects from pruning to planting.
The “Roses: From Pruning to Planting” workshop is open to individuals of all ages and skill levels, and will take place on the first Saturday and Wednesday of the month.
It will cover a range of topics, from the different varieties of roses available, to advice on selecting the right one for your garden.
Nigel Lawton, Dobbies’ plant buyer, said: “Roses are a timeless garden favourite, providing a vibrant pop of colour, a delicate fragrance when in bloom, and are a magnet for pollinators like bees and butterflies.
“There are so many wonderful varieties, perfect for any outdoor space.
“We’re excited to help demonstrate some simple planting and pruning tips to help gardeners in Stockton enjoy these popular flowers throughout the summer months and into autumn.”
With over 250 rose varieties to choose from at Dobbies, attendees will have plenty of options to explore, including modern shrub and English roses, bush roses, rambling roses, and climbing roses.
The workshop will also cover rose planting basics, including the types of pots and planters, potting mix, mulch, and rose feed needed to keep the plant healthy.
Dobbies’ green team will explain the importance of pruning and essential tools, before demonstrating how to deadhead roses.
Those attending will have the opportunity to try it themselves, gaining practical gardening skills.

The workshop will conclude with an informal Q&A session, where attendees can ask any questions they have about rose care, and discuss any challenges they are facing with their existing roses.
Spaces for the workshop are limited, so those interested in attending are encouraged to book their spot through the Dobbies website.
A new addition to Dobbies this season is the ‘Special Dad’ rose, a firm favourite with rose enthusiasts, known for its classic blooms that return with colour and sentiment year after year.
