  1. I have eagles and osprey that put on a show often above my house. A few years ago, I saw some major shadows and crazy bird squawking coming up behind me. My husband yells, watch out babe! The bald eagle was chasing down the Osprey for it's catch. They were flying lower and lower ansd the Osprey dropped it's fish. Man that Eagle swooped in and snatched that fish rt out of the air! I had went under a large Japanese Maple tree and was watching in awe. It never gets old watching them. We have Crane and Big beautiful herring that are constantly flying over and stopping in our front marsh. We have lived here for 9 years and it NEVER gets old! Every box turtle, mud turtle, and snapping turtle is like seeing one for the 1st time. My whole family just enjoys what all mother nature provides. EXCEPT those darn nettles šŸ˜‚they are popping up more and more EVERYWHERE.

  2. Love these daily videos! Hey newbies: Don't buckle to analysis paralysis! Just do the thing with what you have. šŸ™‚ Gardening is one big experiment.

  3. I’m getting strawberries for the first time this year, I’m so excited!! I’ve been growing them from seed for two years and I just finally have been able to fill up my green stalk all the way with them! It’s full of strawberries šŸ“

  4. Had the same thought yesterday. If you empty your pockets to di laundry and they are full of little bits of plastic and dirt, you might be a gardener. Or washing my husband's heavy coat to put away for the summer, only to find his pockets are full of pine shavings from the chicken coop. Lol šŸ˜‚

  5. The "Will brake for berries" is amazing and needs to be a number sticker/sticker or shirt design!

Miah's "I'll take my tree and go" made me LOL šŸ˜‚

  6. I started some store bought ginger and turmeric inside and planted them out in pots a couple years ago. I'm in zone 7. I covered them over the winter but didn't really water them. I was surprised that they survived. The ants got into them this last winter (or maybe early spring), so I had to restart both.

  7. Since feb we have had 3 tornadoes and a flood. Lost both my small but needed greenhouses. I was ready to give up. It has now rained 10 days out of the last 2 weeks. I finally took out trays put my soil in planted my seeds and have put the humidity lids on to keep the seeds from washing out. Yes my garden will be very late but I will have a garden!!!

  8. My friend was in her back yard garden one day and a fish came from the sky and landed in her yard. She was super surprised but figured an Osprey had grabbed a fish at the nearby river and then flew over dropping it.

  9. Jess, I recently lost 50lbs and had to dig out some old jeans that I haven’t been able to wear for several years. I put them on and they fit great. In my pocket, I found three marigold flower heads with perfectly mature and dry seed ready to plant. Yes, this probably means that I hadn’t washed those jeans before storing them, who cares. And yes, I have accidentally laundered seeds.

  10. Today my grand dogs tore up all my green beans , peas and flowers out of 3 of my garden beds. I’m just crying as I clean out the destruction.

  11. If you ever want some of Payne's Hawkins Prolific field corn, let me know, it has been in our family for many generations. We grow it with sweet corn but on different parts of the farm so it is not close together and have no problem with cross pollination. It is wonderful for cornmeal, grits, and animal feed. It can also be wonderful it you pick it just right and cut the tips off the kernals and scrape out the "goodie" juice, then cook over heat with salt and butter. It's the best corn Off the cob you ever ate.

  12. I remember the absolutely lowest time in my life I had a garden. I left off tending to it for a season. Until I had enough strength to come back to it. Because of the journey I went on because I needed to. I finally came back to the garden, after time it slowly started to flourish. Which if I did not leave it alone to go on a much needed journey it would most definitely never flourished. I don't know if this makes any sense to anyone else but I had to right it down so I did so to spea. Life is a journey as long as you recognize it.

  13. Love your oaks!ā¤ We also moved off our family farm about twenty years ago. We had an ancient Keiffer pear on the old place. Brought a cutting here ..she’s so productive now! Redbuds , bridal wreath, a rose. My favorite rust colored Iris.. all made the migration…

  14. As someone with little ones, I recommend container gardening and/or having a small garden when you have little kids. Put the garden/containers in an area where they can play outside with toys, sandboxes, and other distractions, while you tend to your containers. I have Greenstalks, lots of terracotta pots with tomatoes and cucumbers, and a very small space in the ground with berries and flowers, all next to an area where my young daughter can ride her bike or play. Establishing perennials before you have kids (or as soon as you can) also pays off in the long run… most of my front yard consists of perennials established 5-10 years ago and they pretty much manage themselves. Roses, elderberry, medicinal herbs and flowers, sage, etc.

  15. Jess you are too funny!!! ā€œ I’m not going to get off task today ā€œ! Lolololol. Yes, yes you will!! I mean how could you not. It’s gorgeous!!!! ā¤

  16. You often say that plants WANT to grow. Last year was rough, tough losses. I planted a few things in the garden but didn't have the energy or wherewithal to care for it, between the grief and stress… I was surprised with harvest, albeit small, anyway. Tomatoes, cukes, peppers, and beans–and I never watered or fed the garden once last year (I'm guessing my new guardian angels made sure it rained often enough). So for anyone struggling–do what you can IF you can. Your garden may surprise you anyway. And there's always next year!

  17. Jess, iron will change the color of your hydrangeas. If you want the purple or blue… put old iron nails or an old hammer or axe head in the soil. šŸ˜‰

  18. Thank you for the tid bit about the mom with young kids. My fourth is three months old, and I'm way behind and overwhelmed. I paused your video, had my husband take the baby and I weeded one bed. It took an hour, but it's ready to plant. 5 more beds to go šŸ˜…
