  1. Laura and Aaron, you are an inspiration to your followers! Your positive interaction with each other is a blessing! God bless you and your beautiful family.❤️

  2. Could you encircle your pond with temporary potted trees to add shade? just an idea. Also, have you considered growing something like Ivory Silk Japanese Tree Lilac, small tree, they bloom in June(ish) so extend the lilac season.

  3. My two cats have eaten down one of my nepeta (not sure which variety) but they haven’t touched my Walkers Low….yet

  4. Zone 4 gardener here, regarding junipers go with Emerald Green! We tried PW North Pole not once but twice, we will not try a third time! I've put the Emerald Greens through some stuff and they usually bounce back for us, the North Poles didn't want to survive even with being babied. Twice!

  5. Funny a viewer mentioned Nepeta and cat issues because I had the same problem. I planted Walkers Low Nepeta/ Catmint, and my cats would not leave it alone. I stuck plastic forks in it to try to keep them from rubbing all over it, and they just pushed them aside. 😅 They eventually smothered the plants to death. 🪦

  6. I agree. Field bindweed (some call it wild morning glory) is the absolute worst. I have been battling it for decades. Just when I think I have it under control, it comes back with a vengeance. It sends out 1000s of seed from just one plant, so if you see it, pull it up before it goes to flower. Also, the seedlings pull up easily, but once established it forms a tap root.

  7. I got nepata at your suggestion and I love it, but in my previous garden where there were cats nearby – they loved it! Rolled in it and ruined one of them. In my current garden there are a few cats around but they don't bother it. Maybe it's cat specific. 🙂

  8. When the length of time to correct a curve in a young tree be different between species? Soft wood as compared to a hardwood tree like an oak.

  9. Algicide will probably kill the good bacteria. They do have a bacteria growth helper it worked to help balance my Aquaponic system.. I forgot what it's called but it's very stinky while you put it in the water.. but not once it's in the water. If you can access the bacteria cubes (the ones they burried)

  10. To the person that asked about nests in their Hoselink, I had a rat make a nest in mine. We are in Florida, and do not need to bring the hose in over the winter. Also, I didn’t use it much during our rainy season. When I was ready to use it again it was leaking from the inside. After taking the entire compartment apart, we found the nest and the rat had chewed a hole in the hose. We’ve repaired it, but it does not retract anymore and we could not put the cover back on properly. My advice, use it a lot and keep the hose reel active.

  11. Hey Laura I absolutely love your videos! I need advice. My bf bought his mom a hyacinth this spring but then after it was done blooming he forgot to water it while she was on vacation and the leaves died prematurely… they planted it outside in a pot, will it ever bloom again if it didn’t have a chance to charge up the bulb?

  12. Comment on slug bait – please read the label. Years ago as a novice gardener, I wasn't tuned in to just how lethal and non-selective chemicals can be. I baited for slugs with a well-known product, unintentionally killing baby wrens (mama was feeding them the bait I'd sprinkled in the garden) and a skunk which ate the poisoned slugs.

  13. Answer to the hard H on herb. Brits don't care for the French! Hahahah. Take the word Valet (they use a hard T), Fillet (they use a hard T), Herb they use a hard H., Cafe is pronounced Caf. Any word we use the french pronunciation , they will not say it that way!

  14. I live in NW WI. Yes, birds do build nests in Hoselinks. My husband had to work to remove all the sticks and twigs so we could reinstall the hoses this spring.

  15. Hey Laura and Aaron have to kudos to comment of how much your channel is so helpful to us that 💕 planting flowers that is all that I plant your knowledge is amazing

  16. Glad you're feeling better! I keep forgetting it's really only the end of May. I'm 45 minutes from you and yes, things are starting to look good! I have tomatoes on my Crimson Sprinter. Love your videos. I was at your parents' nursery and enjoyed myself. Met your delightful parents too!

  17. Beneficial bacteria lives on the surface of things in your pond, so changing the water is fine. It is the same with fish tanks. Unless, of course, you scrub all crooks and crannies.

  18. I will have to see how the red and purple look but neither of them are my favourites. I much prefer the soft colours. Even yellow feels jarring for me. So it will be interesting.

  19. I have two hose links and the birds have built nests in both of them. To answer Aaron’s question they built the nests when the hoses were coiled up inside the housing. I didn’t know it had a nest inside until I pulled the hose out and a bunch of sticks and debris came out with it. It was a chore to get it all cleaned out🤦🏻‍♀️

  20. We take the h off of herbs because it’s a French word. The English pronounce the h out of spite towards the French.

  21. My hose links are always coiled up and I have had two times where birds have built nests. Thankfully, because I use them all the time, I scared them off before they were established.

  22. Kneeling pads work great at the race track! Those times you have a TIGHT space to sit on the bench while watching dirt track/track racing- helps the back and the buttocks!!

  23. I planted nepeta in the front yard a few years ago. All the neighborhood cats were all over it. Several times I would find a random cat laying in the center of the nepeta. It never returned after the winter season, and I’m pretty sure it’s from the cat abuse lol. I plant new nepeta in the backyard where it is fenced and safe and it flourishes.

  24. Native Locust Trees have thorns (Gleditsia Tricanthos) but many cultivated commerical varieties are bred to not have them.

  25. Had to kick birds out of my Hoselink this week. We've been very wet so I haven't been using it and the birds took advantage. I pulled the hose out and put the whole unit on the ground. Birds were upset but moved on. Weird

  26. Since you asked for it, here is my experience with wire vine in zone 9b. I originally planted it in a container and loved it so much that I moved it into my landscape, in a bunch of different places. Fortunately, I soon realized what can happen with wire vine in the landscape when I volunteered to help out at our local Japanese garden. I came across a huge wire vine that had not been properly cared for. It was approximately 3 feet high by about 5 feet wide. It was by a walkway, so they had sheered the side of it so people could walk by. As a result, you could see just what was happening inside. It was super woody with some of the vine as thick as my wrist, and boy was it ugly! I realized right then that I needed to be sure to sheer my wire vine to the ground each year to prevent it from getting woody. Even with doing this, I found that my beds were being completely taken over by the vine. It even climbed under the siding of our shed and came out under the eaves. I have been digging it out ever since and finally have pretty much gotten rid of it. The leaves are so pretty, but I would stick to containers and not let it escape into your landscape if you're in a zone where it doesn't die back in the winter. I've made this comment several times. I just hope I can help fellow gardeners learn from my experience.

  27. I like the light blue colors on you and Aaron! The blue looks cooler. Your garden is so beautiful. Hopefully you can get the dreaded algae under control in the pond.

  28. We had a very large natural pond in our field. Buying our home In October it was gorgeous. By summer not as much. We had major duck weed, bought chemicals, added carp, had our teenagers in canoes raking it to shore, bought a huge fountain. All the things. Finally seeing we weren’t winning the battle after multiple seasons, decided to appreciate the contrasting duck week color to the grass during the hot months and gave up 😂

  29. Have you tried putting a dozen algae eaters like the ones for a fish aquarium. I had a pond and put one little algae eater in and he did a good job. He grew to almost 12”. My pond was only 20’ x 12’.

  30. Hi Laura, I live in Northland New Zealand where wire vine (Muehlenbeckia) is a native plant , there are a lot of different ones, one in particular (M complexa) that is wild around my place is an evil thug, its extremely hard to eradicate, it strangles and climbs any thing it comes in contact with. For me they are an absolutely don't plant , even though there are some that just mound, I figure there are plenty of other things that I could plant. We are a warm area , lots of annuals will over winter just for perspective, no frosts for the last few years. Jim Putnam has a wee video on wire vine which perhaps might be worth your viewer watching.

  31. Suggest for the pond alge . Get water hyacinth . It produces shade cover and starves the alge of nutrients. Water lettuce is good, too. I love when the hyacinth bloom their purple flowers. It does multiple and will not survive winter

  32. The person who commented about the h being “removed” from herb has forgotten about words also used such as honour, hour and heir. They, like herb, are all French based words and it’s just one of those words the English brought with them THEN CHANGED the way they pronounced them, however the previous pronunciation stuck.
