I just got her last weekend and she was thoroughly watered by the nursery and sopping wet when I got her. Itâs been a week and Iâm wondering how to k ow when to water. I have 30+ house plants and have tried with SOP and string of tears and I cannnnooootttttttttt keep them alive. This is a variegated SOP, and she was so cheap I had to try again. Please help.
Also when I got her she had these dried up pearls, what does this mean??

Donât water it until the âwindowsâ on the pearls close
You may need a flashlight to shine through them in the dark since itâs variegated
Water only when the windows or dried up or if the pearls have gone wrinklyâthis is generally past watering time, but so long as itâs not too long it will bounce back.
I have a variegated string of pearls that I got in December. This was my first and only string of pearls so didnât know much about them other than what I read online. I originally was trying to wait until the windows (see thru line) closed on them to water, but some would close and some wouldnât and I would see some dried up pearls so I got scared lol.
I honestly donât water it very often, maybe once a month, but I donât go by dates, I go by the heaviness of the pot. When it feels light, I water it. The way I water it is I put it in a big plastic bowl and then pour water into the plastic bowl and let it soak the water up for an hour or 2 (I move the pearls on top to look at the potting mix and wait until it looks damp on top to determine if itâs watered fully). Then I take it out and let it sit on a rack to drain for an hr or 2. I do switch it up and water it from the top occasionally because I do think that watering from the top rinses the potting mix.
It has grown a bunch since I got it and it has even flowered so Iâm pretty confident to say itâs happy lol. Iâve even propagated it a couple times and now have more lol. I have mine hanging in a south west facing window and some of the white on the pearls turned a light purple color from the sun stress.
I honestly think that some of the issues people have with this plant is because, when we love a plant so much, we tend to overdo the care on it. This is a plant that does better with a little neglect.
