This is year 2 after I dug up a "lawn" of Bermuda grass and star of Bethlehem. It's on the alley, behind my garage because that is the only area that gets full sun. Mostly native. Yarrow, blue sage, hairy beardtongue, evening primrose and others.

That’s great! Where are you? I have a similar “garden” on our laneway, though much rattier than yours. It’s narrower and takes a beating from cars and plowing in the winter. The soil is dry and terrible and a lot of it is just on top of asphalt. So far, the successful plants have been Canada, Blue stem and Seaside goldenrods, Canada anemone, Blazing Star, echinacea purpurea and pallida, and wild strawberry. Second year for a nodding onion. I have a hairy beardtongue in there but I’m not sure it’s thriving. Is it normal for them to die back?

Did you do this from seed? It’s beautiful!
