Came across this stunning plant at a local nursery. It’s going for $5000 per piece, and apparently, it’s the most expensive plant available there right now.
Looks like a Yucca rostrata (maybe?). Anyone know what drives the price this high? Rarity, age, or just slow growth?

If it is *Yucca rostrata*, which I believe it is, the price is 10x of several other sellers in $-land. Larger plants are sold for $500 and your pictures do not look like a new cultivar. Also, *Yucca rostrata* is not endangered and listed in the “least concerned” (IUCN) category or G5/safe (NatureServe).

And I’ll still kill it in under a week

I beg to differ. I used to work at a garden nursery and the most expensive plant we sold were imported Greek Olive trees. For about 6ft you were looking at Β£2000 minimum. (The owners were unashamed rip off merchants though so might not be the most accurate price)

I have a marketing tip for the nursery: if you want to have them appear somewhat exclusive maybe don’t put a dozen of them on the sales floor.

  5. That price is dumb. Nothing special about this plant.

Nursery near me has palm trees for $10k-$20k.

I do want it, but maybe for more like 800.

That price is crazy for a 15g / 24” yucca. I charge around $1k at most with delivery and install.

  13. No way. Retail should be less than $1000 depending on where you’re located. If you’re really far north in the US, $1500-$2000 max. Freight can get crazy these days, but even if you tripled cost AND freight, it would still be less than $5000.

Pretty and all but $5000 has to be a lie, that price is CRAZY

The age, to get a trunk like that it’s a true specimen

  16. I wasn’t sure what I was looking at after the first 3 pictures, but the other 6 helped dial it in.

This gives me a yucca feeling in my stomach to know that kind of price gouging exists
