Greetings from Norway. There is a cargo ship on my lawn. See photo. What have y’all done when faced with this situation? https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/22/world/europe/norway-ship-crash-backyard.html

(And no, this was not actually my lawn. Just thought y’all would enjoy this novel lawn challenge.)

My lawn isn’t looking much better after the town came in to re-pave an area on my street and made a concious decision of driving one of their trucks 4 feet up my front lawn.

I am fighting a losing battle getting them to come fix it.

Manual extraction – yar, drink up me hearties, yo ho 🏴‍☠️

  4. If it’s rooted too deep, probably best to just keep it there as a lawn ornament

in this situation automod used to be like, “Would you like a cool season guide for some assistance?” 😂 😂

The grass is always greener on the Starboard side

    Interesting. A few thoughts:

    1. You need to dig down and expose the root flare of the bad boy. Oh wait, from sub.

    2. Did it come with a bunch of “guests” to your fine nation?

    3. Make it a planter. A fecund Noah’s Ark of flora. You can be in the newest testament which I hear is currently being drafted.

    4. I hope you have a nice warm summer. Looks chilly.

  8. When are the mods to stop all of the “there is a cargo ship on my lawn” posts? Just use the search function to see one of the thousands of other posts on the subject.

  9. I would start salvaging equipment off the ship and selling it.

Their ship came in. Right through the begonias.

That ship needs to be towed outside of the environment

  12. See this is why tenacity isn’t the cure-all post emergent everyone claims

Spread compost, gotta speed up breakdown

Just wait till fall, know this is your chance though! Sell the boat as they are just huge money pits to maintain. Then with that money get your yard regraded and with about a quarter of your boat sale profits on bagged some real good top soil. Make sure you have a good 3 feet of premium top soil all over. Then plant some grass seed, your favorite preferably and then some starter fertilizer, lay some straw over it and water consistently.

Thank you for posting. This really is cool to hear from you, after seeing this in the news

One of the few instances I’d recommend a weed barrier.

You may want to water a bit more… seems a bit dry but could just be the angle of the photo.

I am just wondering how the guy didn’t wake up with the sound of a cargo ship grounding but did when his neighbor ringing the doorbell.

  19. PaulClarkLoadletter

It belongs to the homeowner now, technically. I’d offload whatever is in the containers then start scrapping the ship. If you go fast enough you can tear the whole thing down before the state and the ship owner to decide who’s responsible for floating it.

Oh I thought its a scott spreader 😂😂😂

  21. Aggressive_Ad211

Leave it and water it every 2 days should be fine

  22. Dig a really large hole, put ship inside, sell house, wait for some to post why there grass won’t grow there, tell them there’s a large ship, enjoy.
