WIMBORNE Gardening Club members were treated to an illustrated talk by Mary van Coller.

The talk, titled Downstream Dorset, River Tales and Local History, was described as a “colourful journey of discovery through the beautiful county of Dorset”.

The meeting also saw a successful plant swap among attendees.

A week later, nearly 40 members went on a coach trip to Exbury Gardens.

The trip benefited from perfect weather, providing an ideal opportunity for members to explore the gardens on foot.

There was also the choice of two tours.

The first tour included the history of Exbury and anecdotes of the Rothschilds’ involvement, while the second was a detailed look at selected areas of the gardens, highlighting noteworthy plants.

The next monthly meeting is set for Monday, June 2, at St. Catherine’s Church Hall, Rodways Corner, at 7.30pm.

The speaker will be Alex Brenton, who will share his insights and horticultural experience on the theme of Myths & Misunderstandings – back to common sense in the garden.

The club also reminded members and the community about the late summer show on Saturday, August 30, at the Allendale Centre.
