Is it a friend or foe?

  1. Wish I have more of these in my garden!

    Ladybird larvae, destroyer of aphids.

They’re ladybird larvae, specifically 7 spot ladybird. There’s been a huge bump to aphid numbers this year, alongside insects so expect a heavy ladybird season. These little things can eat 100 aphids a day! It’s a sign of a healthy eco system in your garden.

I like lady birds, but their larvae look horrifying!

You are SO lucky! I recently paid £50 for some of these and some lacewing larvae for our aphid problem and they’re doing a great job but you’re so lucky to have them already…usually they come out later in the season after the aphids have done lots of damage
