How do the Chinese grow bamboo mushrooms?
Did you know that the Chinese are growing bamboo mushrooms using fermented bamboo sawdust? The process begins by mixing the sawdust with specific additives and allowing it to ferment for a set period. Once ready, the mixture is spread into raised beds, where farmers carefully place mushroom spawn into evenly spaced rows. After planting, they cover the beds with more material, loose soil, and a layer of straw to retain moisture and prevent weeds from growing. After about two months, the mushrooms break through the surface, emerging with their characteristic stalk and delicate veil. When it’s time to harvest, growers pull the mushrooms from the base, gently removing the cap and any remaining stem. The mushrooms are then taken to a processing facility, neatly arranged on racks, and dried in a specialized oven to preserve their bright white color and natural flavor. The resulting dried product is of high quality, well-loved by the market, and commonly used in light, nutritious dishes.

A beautiful, fragile Veiled Mushroom (Phallus sp.). The scientific name 'Phallus' comes from mushroom's resemblance to a human penis (minus the veil) and also because of its disgusting (semen like) stink. Not surprisingly loads of insects are attracted to awful smelling things and you can see the numerous flies sitting on the mushroom cap. These mushrooms are very fragile and delicate and grow on the leaf litter. They are found in well shaded regions and often disintegrate with rising day temperatures. I just know from this video, that the mushroom is widely farmed and consumed in China. Probably for aphrodisiac effect.
I've eaten bamboo mushrooms before. Quite delicious in soups, actually. I thought they grew inside the bamboo hallows, lol. 😂
