moved in to a place with GORGEOUS bleeding hearts. how do i maintain them?
hi, i moved into a place with a friend and the previous owner (who passed from old age) had these GORGEOUS bleeding hearts plants. the only thing i'm good at maintaining are cacti. any advice?
Honestly aside from watering, you don’t have to do anything.. they will thrive on their own – they’re awesome that way. They do tend to go dormant in the summer after they’re done blooming, but they’ll come back again next year. 🙂

I love these soooo much! My mom kept them alive by doing nothing.
Just know they are deadly to doggies

Wow. You just unlocked a memory that my poor desert dwelling heart hasn’t thought of for years.
As a kid in the Midwest, we had a backyard gazebo that had these guys around it. They were beautiful.
Its funny, we lived in 4 different houses growing up, I couldn’t tell you which one had a gazebo but I remember this plant.

I have one in my front yard. I had a tree removed and dug out the bleeding heart because my yard changed to full , hot, afternoon sun. I must have left a bit of the root because it came back the next year twice the size and again this year twice that size. It takes up half my flower bed! All this to say, they’re practically indestructible from my experience.

They will maintain you. And everything around them. They’re…pervasive.

Enjoy them, water them. In the Fall, forget about them. My fave first of Spring.

When we were younger, my mom gave all of us kids a flower box. The ones that she gave me had bleeding hearts 💕

When they die on their own trim back the dead stuff and they’ll come back even bigger next year. They do die permanently eventually but when they do just replace them with a new bleeding heart and it’ll be years of beautiful plants again.

So beautiful ! Here’s quik guide I know when taking care of this flowers, first it should be on partial to full shade light. Then the soild should be rich well drained and moist. Next is when watering just keep soil evenly not soggy. Them the fertilizer should be balanced. And cut back yellow leaves after blooming. Hope this helps !

Those are lovely! They are obviously already in a spot they like, so you don’t have to do much. Mulch around them to keep moisture in soil and keep weeds down.
In warmer areas (NJ and south) they tend to go dormant in summer, they just shrivel up and disappear. So do not panic!!! In NY and points north, the foliage sticks around all year.
