If you can get hold of some cheap / free fence paint / stain that may help to keep it going for a bit longer as that timber looks untreated. Either try speaking to a local horse stables or the council as they often will do a good deal on manure / compost.

Asda has X3 (40-liter) for £10 at the moment….£30 and that’s overflowing.
