SALISBURY Cathedral’s special garden event is just around the corner.
On Sunday, May 25, from 1 pm to 5 pm, The Friends of Salisbury Cathedral will be holding their ninth annual Secret Gardens of the Close afternoon.
This wonderful event has become the highlight of the calendar and is immensely popular with Friends and visitors alike.
This year’s event will see 11 property owners within the Close open their doors to the public, allowing visitors to explore their beautiful gardens against the setting of the beautiful Cathedral.
Friends’ Trustee Duncan Glass said: “These are private gardens, so this is a rare opportunity to step beyond the garden gate.
“We are eagerly awaiting the end of May when we hold our flagship event, which is made possible by the generosity of residents of the Cathedral Close who kindly open their beautiful gardens for us.”

Tea and cake will be available in the Bishop’s garden at South Canonry, and there will be an exhibition of botanical art in the Medieval Hall.
The artwork will be for sale, along with cards and the book Secret Gardens of the Close, produced by Salisbury Florilegium Society and featuring its members’ paintings.
Friends of Salisbury Cathedral Charity Administrator Natalie Maylen said: “This is my favourite event to host, especially if we have beautiful weather. The Garden owners work throughout the year to make sure their gardens are ready for the day.
“Ticket prices are £10 and can be purchased from the Choristers Green on the Sunday, and this ticket allows access to all the gardens taking part. The money raised goes towards the preservation of our Spectacular Cathedral, as well as its life, worship, and mission.
“Perfect for Garden enthusiasts and anyone who enjoys admiring beautiful surroundings.”
