the foliage is beautiful on these these will keep looming up till Frost perfectly fine just to add straight compost we wanted to raise the level of these containers up these are engineered to be filled to a certain level hi everybody Sean and Allison here from spoken Garden and we’re so excited to finally be getting some fall planting done we’re in we’re almost what a month into fall well you know who’s cting we’ve got some work over here to do in these these slat containers these two self-watering containers so we’ll show you here in a minute so we want to start with all the plants that we’re going to add to these two slat containers from Crescent Garden some of you saw our earlier video this um earlier this summer we planted both of these up with just some beautiful bright colors one of them was kind of the orange planter oranges and yellows and sea planted that one it was gorgeous and then this one was all pink some kind of like deeper lighter pink different shades they both grew like crazy so we’re actually saving some of the plants that we grew in those containers and we’re going to add them to a bunch of new fall plants and what’s cool is the fall plants that we that we’re adding there’s only one that’s an annual that we’ll have to dispose of later in the season and that’s this beautiful ornamental kale you know these are so easy to find anywhere but um they’re so pretty we’ve got some typical fall mums garden mums and then the focal point of both of these containers will be these gorgeous aelas you’re probably thinking aelas in the fall well these are re Bloomers this is called Perfecto Mundo and these are from Proven Winners they sent us a whole bunch of different colors what they do is they bloom in the the spring like a typical aelia then they kind of go through another flowering cycle maybe towards the end of summer and they bloom all the way till Frost and yeah totally fun so we’re kind of putting together oh forgot the pansies cannot do a fall planting without pansies right we just got a little six-pack here from Home Depot just a whole bunch of colors so that’ll be lots of fun really bright and colorful we have some plants already in here like this um we’ve got some silver swirl centoria these were not in these Planters over the summer but we’re moving them in because we love them and then this planter is we’re saving the geraniums the foliage is beautiful on these and we love the flower color these will keep blooming up till Frost we’ve had geraniums reblooming into like November and December for us in the past now before we plant any plants in existing containers with existing plants we want to go through and kind of clean them out see how everything’s looking one thing that I like to do is I like to go in especially with these geraniums see if there’s any Dead Leaves any dead stems anything I need to remove before we plant something new because uh geraniums and other plants too um are susceptible to Bettis especially this time of year it’s cool it’s wet betrus loves that and so um these uranium will just get decimated by it if we leave any of that plant material in here and some of the other plants will be susceptible to it also what I’m going to do is I’m going to go through I’m going to take these different leaves uh these rotted leaves out of here I’m going to go through and look for any spent blooms um and any anything else especially on these grasses that I need to look for to remove or around them before we plant these plants we also need to make sure and be aware of the plants that are already existing in these two containers because we don’t want to disrupt their root systems and put any unneeded stress on them while we’re planting the new plants so you’re going to when you’re when we go in here we’re going to need to be very careful of where we’re placing our H hor knives or our TRS if you’re using a TR and when we’re removing that soil or displacing soil we need to make sure we’re just aware of any of those roots of the existing plants um and so then we can just get our planting done [Music] [Music] you saw us probably in the video just a couple minutes before um we were adding more looked like soil to each one of these containers it’s compost and so it’s what we had really available it’s perfectly fine just to add straight compost in um we wanted to raise the level of these containers up to make sure that they’re optimally planted these are engineered to be filled to a certain level of of soil and so we wanted to try and make sure we hit that tell you what I think about about yours I like I like all the color in yours I like the Evergreen aelas in the back all the yellow and even the purple and the kale it all bounces off of it seems like that Evergreen those Evergreen leaves behind it and it just it really Pops I really like that yeah thank you um one thing you might notice I pulled out the um I tried to squeeze in two silver swirl centas a lot of you watching were probably like those are not going to fit but I had to try I wanted that kind of breakup of color but um it was it was just too crowded you know by the Zas by themselves are perfect I think it’s it’s a classic 123 taller Evergreen plant in the back with all the color in the front beautiful and these are still flowering too the aelas are still flowering so I think it’s perfect let’s take a look at this one yeah I love this honey this turned out beautiful thank you yeah it was a little bit of a challenge again with the already established plants in the container the geraniums and the grasses and uh yeah it looks full instantly um I’m kind of envious of yours because I like having that extra space around plants for them to grow into and see I want more fullness but I love the and the leaves of the geraniums over here just totally just po see the horticulturist in me is like everything needs more space more space because and that’s why I like your container um but I get why a lot of people like that instant pop that instant gratification of a fooking container I totally get it uh best practices here now is to water all these in we’ve been getting a lot of rain squalls and rainstorms lately we need to uh fill these reservoirs up cuz these are self-watering containers so we could get away with just kind of halfway filling these self-watering containers the reservoirs and then we wouldn’t have to worry about any of the watering um for quite a while even with the rain coming in we would have to probably monitor them with really heavy rains to make sure they’re just not filling completely up with water but that’s one of the benefits of using these self waterer containers even in uh the fall months is that we can get away with just kind of setting them and forgetting them again so the last thing we need to do is to add a slug repellent because this time of year in the fall especially in the p&w it’s like crazy slug time we’re seeing slugs everywhere they’ve just like there’s Trails everywhere they’re eating plants so they especially love this soft tissue like the pansies the they’re going to go after the ornamental kale probably the mums probably everything I’m using what’s called Sluggo a lot of you know that we use this we’ talked about it before it’s a great product it’s pet safe it’s well Sluggo plus is not pet safe so yeah getting this in here just shaking it we might need to reapply it in a couple weeks but we’ll keep an eye out for it normally you would want to water and then add Sluggo we should be good to go here all right so we just need to find a new home for these guys that that shouldn’t be too hard yeah more containers yeah more containers guys this was a lot of fun let us know what you think down in the comments if uh you know if you like the color combinations the plant combinations if you have these in your yard we really like to know also make sure to hit that thumbs up and that subscribe button so you can get more of our content and if you want to find out a little bit more about these slat water self-watering containers check down below for the link but we also have another video that we talked a lot more about these yep any anything we can set and forget is is coming into our garden or we’re going to try to get another absolutely so yeah so thank you Crescent Garden have a great day out there get that fall planting done and we’ll see you later we’ll see you in the next one bye everybody [Music]

  1. This is so great! I love all of the colors together.
I have my fingers crossed that it'll be another few weeks before we get a frost. I just recently transplanted a ton of plants from a neighbor who was moving. My house already looks like a jungle from all of the plants I have already had to take in. I seriously need a greenhouse. 😂

  2. Oh, quick question about the self watering containers. Is there a likelihood that the water in the reservoir could freeze during winter?
