[Music] Hey guys, welcome back to the Real Southern Garden. I’m Sarah and today is a very special Mother’s Day edition. We’re heading out to Walmart Garden Center and Tractor Supply. And let me tell you, I was so impressed with the Walmart Garden Center. All the things they have right now, the way they merchandised it, the colors, everything was alive. nothing was dying and not being watered. It was so amazing and they had great deals. Great deals on crepe myrtles, frost proof gardinas, dalas, just so many good things. They were looking fantastic over there. We also went to Tractor Supply. They didn’t have as much inventory. You’ll see in the video. I also went over some of the mowers. Now, I didn’t really talk about the mowers because I don’t know a whole lot about them, but I just filmed the prices and showed you the models because someone asked me for that in a previous video. So, I wanted to include it. But Tractor Supply did have some really beautiful hummingbird um feeders that would make great gifts for Mother’s Day. So, you might want to head over there and check some of those out. And what else? We were going to do a little piece with my mom for Mother’s Day, but my husband’s been working out of town and we need some extra help with the girls to film it. So, we’re going to wait and do something maybe next week. Maybe a container planting video with my mom. We bought some plants. We’re looking for some plants in this video for my mom for those containers. So, um, watch till the end to see what we end up with or what we don’t. And I also want to share with you some last minute books that you might want to pick up for Mother’s Day or just for yourself. They are fantastic. They are garden books. Let me show you. The first one is one that a subscriber or viewer told me about. I knew about this garden in Charleston, but boy, I have never read the book. And it’s about Mrs. Whley’s Garden in Charleston. She is a fantastic, hilarious gardener and southern woman. The way the book is written is just, oh my gosh, I’m loving it. I’m only reading a couple pages a day because of the kids. I’m really busy. But you will love this. It comes in like two days on Amazon if you have Prime and it is also um I believe published and um printed in Charleston which is also nice. So you will love this book, trust me. And it is of course fiction. It is not um well it’s actually a true story. So it’s written like a fiction book, but it is non-fiction. But anyway, you’re going to love it. And then this beautiful children’s book I just got for my kids also on Amazon. Would make a great little book to read to your grandchildren or your children. It’s Maggie’s Secret Garden and it is a true story. It was also printed in Charleston um Palmetto Publishing Group. So, printed and published. Anyway, this is a great little book. It’s about a secret garden in this little girl’s backyard that her great-grandparents actually planted and created and her uncle uncovers it with chainsaws and pickaxes and all the things you got to do when you’re uncovering a really old garden. It kind of reminds me of what we did on this property because there were a lot of hidden sidewalks and things here that were overgrown. So, this is a really sweet little book if you want to get your kids into the magic of gardening. And I hope to go over some more books with you in the future because those are really how I got my ideas in my own mind for creating my own garden. It was all the little magical books that I read as a child and as a young adult and of course that I still read today. So, but anyway, let’s get into this video. These will all be linked in the description, by the way. But let’s get into this video and let me take you to Walmart Garden Center and Tractor Supply and let’s see what they’ve got for Mother’s Day. All right, starting off at the Walmart garden center. So, I wanted to show you some of these shrubs that they had. This is where you before you actually enter the garden center. They’re outside and they had some great prices. $19.97 for this arperita. It’s a very good size. They had some roses out here that were looking really healthy. Um, delish. These are grafted, of course. But $19.97, that’s a good price for these guys. But what I’m really excited to show you is just coming up here in a minute, they had some crepe myrtles that were priced really, really great and some gardinas. So great gifts for Mother’s Day. What I love about these or for anytime, of course, these are oleanders. These are not going to make it through the winter in my area. They would have where I grew up down in Houston, but not here. Um, that’s a neat plant right there that I have not seen before. That’s a new one for me. It’s called Little Devil. $24.97. At least that is the common name for it. Really pretty though. Then they had some little wintergreen boxwoods for $8.97 which was not bad. I’ve seen them priced pretty um pretty reasonably also at Lowe’s. And then Indian hawthorne. I grew up with this. This was bordering our backyard and I can still remember the smell. Um, these are priced a little higher than I thought they would be, but I also think that they are really great quality and they are going to be a plant of course that’s going to last forever and ever. There’s these crepe myrtles 1997. The color they had was called Natchez. Great name for it. We love the city of Natches. And then they also had tonto for 1997. Another beautiful one. I’ve got the white and kind of the purpley pink in my yard. And I love all of them. I think they’re just they’re one of my favorite plants in July. Then they had some encore aelas. They had autumn sangria there for $14.97. Then they had some smaller ones over here. And these were $8.97. So that’s a really great deal. I haven’t seen any for less than that. Um, of course they’re more limited on what varieties they might carry, but that is a really good deal. So check them out if you’re looking for some encoreelas. And then of course they had tons of different kinds of hanging baskets. Some were at this price point, some were more. They just had this one is beautiful. This purple and pink is a really beautiful one. Um tea olives for 1997. Now this particular variety is only hardy to zone 8 and we are zone 8 now, but I always plant for zone 7 because we still get those really cold dips here in the winter. If you were to plant this in the greater Atlanta area or North Georgia, I would cover it every winter when we got cold. Wisteria for $8.97, that’s a good buy. And the Gardinia, the frost proof gardinia. We love this variety. $8.97. And I’m pretty sure my mom took one of those home. So, you’ll see at the end of the [Music] video, their fruit trees are priced really great at $29.97. They just don’t have very many left. Um, but I will say that I was most impressed with Tractor Supplies fruit trees and magnolia trees that they had this year. They have lots of denths. Um, still have some of the Gerber daisies available. Check out this beautiful little magenta flower here. I haven’t seen this one before, I don’t think. My mom said that she had $8.97 for that one. Then they had some moss rose also coming in at a pretty great deal. And then check out the inside of the garden center. They have done such a beautiful job with the merchandising and everything is looking healthy and watered. My mom and I were just so impressed with this Walmart garden center on this day. There’s all kind of beautiful dalas. Just fantastic purples and yellows. And I think these would make a great Mother’s Day gift if you have a mama that really loves dalas. 7.88 for all of those. and they’re all in bloom right now. And then they had just different um hanging baskets, all different prices, so depending on what you’re looking for, of course. Um I’m pretty sure they’ve got it though. $2.97 for the little beonas, $1.76 for the kolas. So some good little six-packs if you need some color to pop in somewhere. And of course, they also had the moss rose and they had some vinka and all of that good stuff. and these little stripey New Guinea impatients. $14.88 for these hanging baskets. I thought they were really neat. And then we have $4.97 for this little beonia. Isn’t that gorgeous? It almost looks like a little rose. Really, really pretty color. Um, and they had tons of colors. They also had this in a really nice peach one and almost every color of the rainbow. 9.97 for this dianthis from Better Homes and [Music] Gardens. Canillies at 7.88. I didn’t see that really pink one, beautiful pink one that I saw at Home Depot though last week. Um, lots of New Guinea and patients that were priced pretty great. And then just check out the shot of all this color. Didn’t they do a great job with merchandising and just putting all of these beautiful plants together? I think so. They had quite a few florist hydrangeas. $34.97. Um I stick with the ones that are grown to be outside. I just uh you know, obviously they’re going to do better because they’re grown to be outside, but those do make great Mother’s Day gifts. If you have a mama who really loves hydrangeas, it’s going to last longer than a bouquet of flowers would. 2174 for this shade combo they call it. Some really pretty callellies over here. Coming in at a pretty good price. [Music] And then we have some beautiful hydrangeas, all different kinds. And these are big leaf hydrangeas. Um the tag on it says down to zone 4, but it also says they get 20 ft tall. And I know that that is not correct. So, sometimes Walmart can have some um weird things on their tags. They were all in perfect bloom and I think that they would make a great gift um and down to zone 4. So, these were definitely not the um florest type. These are the ones that you can grow outside. Um I think that’s always fun to be able to plant a memory. At least it is for me. [Music] I was just really taken by all of the beautiful hydrangeanger color that they had. Would make a great gift. And then they had some different perennials coming in at different prices. 6.88 for this one. And then they had sage coming in at $8.97. Really haven’t seen sage anywhere else that I recall. Um some hookra 6.88. They did not have the silver gumdrop here, but they did have the more traditional kind of red color. My daughter wanted to buy this plant 7.88 for this type of dianthis. Um we definitely don’t have this at home. We decided not to grab it though, but it is really beautiful. And then they had some clatus coming in at a really great price. I think that’s the best price that I have seen it anywhere. And then we have some fox glove. $17.97. That seems like a little pricey for that, but it is a beautiful plant. And then we had some verbina coming in here. um a patunia that is really uh unusual. This one I have never grown that particular one. And then this beautiful Persian shield. My mom picked up some of this the last time we were here and it’s in one of her containers, which you guys will see soon. This is a really beautiful plant. It really um I’m usually a flower girl, but you know what? A lot of the foliage is really gorgeous too that you can pick up and starting to really love that as [Music] well. And all salosia is not created equal. I mean obviously this here was huge. Um they had some really great sizes. Another look at these New Guinea impatients that have the striping. I think those are gorgeous. It is so so pretty. And lavender is always pretty expensive. $17.97 for this size. It is blooming beautifully though. Um, once again, the fox glove that we already looked at, $17.97 for the size that they have. And I loved this container. It’s 29.97 um, already put together for you, but I just love the colors and that. It would be a really great gift to give to your mama. [Music] These beautiful Boston fern hanging baskets still coming in at the best price here at9.97. Some geraniums. They didn’t have a ton of geraniums. They did earlier in the year. And then these sunfinity sunflowers that are relooming sunflowers. 1788. They’re about to just go wild with flowers. They’ve got buds all over them. They will bloom all summer. That’s the best price I have ever seen for that cultivar. It’s a brand new one. I almost grabbed a couple. Um, they’re annuals obviously, but if it’s going to bloom all summer, that’s that’s going to be a pretty great little plant. Be very showy and nice to have. Extra large Dalia coming in at [Music] 2174. That color is quite eye-catching. Some creeping jenny there. Priced pretty well. Um, I can tell you that it is cheaper here than it is at Tractor Supply. Some caladiums. We already took a look at these guys. And of course, they had all of the Bonnie plants. Um they these are not the Bonnie plants, but the Bonnie plants are coming up. This is a different um Expert Gardenard is a different brand that they carry. This was a pretty good price for basil. Basil is pretty easy to grow [Music] though. And then they have lots of the little drop in containers that are already put together for you. And they’re all priced different. This is9.97 for this one, which I think is pretty reasonable. Um, just all great quality, very healthy. You have to be careful with them. Make sure that they actually are all shade plants or all sun plants that they have put together. Sometimes they can do some weird things, but for the most part, I’ve been pretty lucky. And any of the ones I have bought have done well, just like they said that they would do, and they have the right plants, and they’re together. But occasionally you’ll get the wrong ones. Just be careful. But they had some great combinations. Lots of hostas back here. U most of them were around 6 to 88. They had a couple different sizes. [Music] And then some beautiful pink Lantana $4.97. Very beautiful color. Lots of Colancho also coming in at $4.97. [Music] And the best price anywhere from Mary Gold’s $2.97. Sometimes I grow them from seed, but you really can’t beat this price for these. Pop them in around your tomatoes or just for some color. Really, really great deal. Uh we have some patunias here. These almost look like a fall color to me, like Halloweenish or, you know, late late fall. Um, some friia $9.97. Another sun combo that is really pretty with the contrasting dark leaves and then those bright beonas in there. They did some They did a really great job with a lot of the containers that they have for sale. Walmart has been really stepping up their game. And there’s little Miss Adeline. She’s happy happy to be at another garden center. Um, let’s see. We also had this beautiful container. Gloria Rose. That one’s a really nice one with those beautiful pink beonas. I think any mama would be um thrilled to get one of these. And then this rose is one of the Bloomables, I believe. Is that the brand? Bloomable. True Bloom. Um they’re supposed to be disease resistant. Have not grown any of these. I get almost all of my roses at online nurseries. I’ve got a long list of different ones I want to try. So, I don’t buy many roses out um at the garden centers, but every once in a while I’ll get a drift rose or a knockout here and there. Um but most of them I do get online. I’m going down my list and just seeing which ones do the best and go wrong with the double knockout. This red fuchsia kind of color. It It performs really well. [Music] Let’s just take one more look at this garden center and what a great job they have done. Like I said, with all the beautiful color and they merchandised it so well. They have so many great things in for Mother’s Day. I always like to show you guys a very quick peek at some of the I guess you could call it garden furniture or patio furniture that they have. Um 398 for the table. There’s a little chair back there at 197. The larger couch tables at 7.97. The two chairs are at 3.98. Then they had a whole bunch at the perimeter of kind of at the ceiling level of different things. They had some rocking chairs up there and another little patio set. Hopefully you guys can see all the prices. I just did a quick, you can pause it if you need to, but I did a quick little sweep of what they had available. Lots of umbrellas. Um, some nice things. It’s on to Tractor Supply. So, let’s see what Tractor Supply has for Mother’s Day weekend. I love this little um I guess you would call it. It’s kind of like an arbor. It’s like a display arbor that they had. Uh they can really hang a lot of neat plants on it for display. They’ve got it propped up there with some wooden um crates, but I thought it was really cute. And then we’re just going to see. They’ve got a couple of Proven Winners plants here. Pugster blue. I think this one, if I can remember, what was the price on this one? It took me a second to find it. See if I can spin it around. It finds it on. There we go. $24.99 for the Pugster Blue. Then they still had a few fruit trees left and they aren’t quite as fresh obviously as they were, but $39.99. This is an oak tree, not a fruit tree, but they did still have some peach trees and a couple other things back there. And then checked out a couple of their hanging baskets. Honestly, $24.99 for this one. Uh Walmart had a better selection of hanging baskets, hands down. Um Tractor Supply has a few things you’re going to see coming up that Walmart did not have. Of course, they have some really beautiful gifts inside the store, too. They’ve got a great selection of hummingbird feeders, so stay tuned for those. But for hanging baskets, you really couldn’t beat variety. I mean, you couldn’t beat Walmart for the variety that they have right now. There’s some geraniums. And one thing Tractor Supply did have a ton of is beonas. And you’re going to see those coming up. They have more beonas than I’ve seen anywhere. Some Super Bells at $14.99. I’m just going to start calling it Super Bells because that way it’s really easy to [Music] pronounce. Some strawberry in a hanging basket. Still pretty pricey at 1998, but I hear it’s a great way to grow them. I haven’t tried it myself. They had a lot of Bonnie plants and they did have some of those on sale and I’m going to show you those in just a [Music] second. So, they had the 4.5 in vegetables 3 for [Music] 12. Then the 4.5 in herbs were three for 15. [Music] All right, and let’s head inside and see what they’ve got. So, they have hydrangeas $5 off for the 2 to three gallon, which is not a bad deal, but in my opinion, I would rather have a little bit. And this is great for a gift, of course, cuz they’re already blooming and they’re a little bit bigger. They’re $29.99, so you’re going to get it for $5 off. So, just under 25 bucks for the Endless Summer. The ones I bought were a lot smaller of a size. Um $12.98 is what they were a piece over at Home Depot, but I can plant them without having to dig such a giant hole. So, I can kind of work in the soil a little bit, and I think it just works better for me to have a smaller size. They had little lime punch. you can see right here. Then they had a few little tropical plants here. Um $19.99 for this little guy. They had some bamboo. These could make some really neat gifts if your mother is into growing these type of plants and has, you know, some house plants inside. [Music] And then we have some more denthas. $12.99 proven winners fruit punch. That’s a great size. And don’t forget mamas and grandmas and everybody. You can treat yourself too. So if you see a great plant, you grab it for yourself. Um what do we have here? Some salvia hybrid. $8.99. That’s really pretty. I know my hummingbirds would love that. And what else do we have? We’ve got some great shrubs coming up in the back. They had a really great There’s some coropsis for $8.99. There’s some really good deals on chameleas coming up here in a second. Some hellaors, $19.99. They are always pricey and always expensive no matter where you get them. [Music] [Music] Coropsis coming in for $6.99. I really love Coropsis because it comes back and it’s such a happy little [Music] plant. Some dillies for $7.99. They’re looking pretty healthy. It’s about dilly season. There is a really neat place I want to take you guys to in an upcoming video. A guy here near me that just grows hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of dillies. So hopefully that’ll be coming up in a video here in a couple weeks. So I think you’re going to really enjoy it. Some hostas for $7.99. [Music] and then some different impatients. And these were the hanging baskets. Um $24.99 for the hanging baskets. And then they had some beautiful bagonas. $24.99. Look at that color. That’s a hanging basket, of course. And there’s more coming up, so stay tuned for the Beonia extravaganza. Um, some Zenyas and hanging baskets. I’m not sure. I mean, you can definitely do that. That’s not something something of a plant that I normally think of in a hanging basket. They kind of grow upright, but it works, I suppose. $24.99 for these knockout roses. They were a better deal over at Walmart, I believe. There’s a red maple. $39.99. That’s not a bad price for that [Music] one. And they had some various limes and kumquats and things like that. Coming in at $32.99. Those would make a great little Mother’s Day gift. So, these of course are not blooming now, but these Chameleia Japonas coming in at $29.99. That’s a great deal. I usually see them closer to $50 a piece. So, if you are looking for a Chamilleia Japonica Arctic Rose, come to Tractor Supply because I doubt you’re going to find it anywhere for less money. We had the Chinese fringe flower here. And that one is coming in at [Music] $24.99. Had 20% off of their assorted annual planters and most of them were around $39.99. So you’re getting 20% off. They had some beautiful tourist beonas. Oh my gosh, look at those. Look at that color. It’s just absolutely stunning. And then of course the creeping jennies spilling over. Um the Encore Aelas, they had them for was it 12? Yeah, $12.98. So that’s a pretty good little price. Um it’s a little bit larger than the $8 size $8 $8.98 size we saw over at Walmart. So pretty close in price with these. And they have different varieties, of course. Then, you know, Walmart has some that Tractor Supply doesn’t and vice versa. They have a lot of autumn chiffon here at Tractor Supply. And Autumn Twist is another one I see a lot at Tractor Supply. [Music] $8.99 for the winter green boxwood. That is right at the same price that we saw them at Walmart for. Lantana. $14.99 for this hanging basket size. The knockout roses were $24.99 and they were on special last month here at Tractor Supply, but now they’re back to $24.99. Lots of impatience. They had some of the hookra. They did not have any of the silver gumdrop left. Limelight prime. They had this one. $24.99 for that hydrangeanger. [Music] And then just some of the more traditional salvia, which I do love that little red salvia. I think it’s so pretty in the summertime. $1.99 a piece for that size. And then they had some tropicals up here at the top. [Music] We just have some more beautiful beonas of all colors. Some patunias. Um, what else did they have? They had some six packs. So, Lucia, look at the color on that one. That is just so pretty. My patients are pretty good size. $7.99 for those. They look really healthy. [Music] [Music] and some little Vinka coming in at $1.99. And I had a request to film some of the tractors and that sort of thing that they carry at Tractor Supply. So, of course, I’m going to do my best to just give you a quick little look here at what they have. You can see the prices are all pretty easy to see. So, I’m just going to go through and give you guys a little overview and hopefully this will help you if you’re in the market for a zeroturn or some type of new tractor. Um, my daddy had a Cub Cadet and loved it. We’ve got a zero turn now because we’ve got a lot of land that we have to mow. But these prices seem pretty competitive to me here at Tractor Supply. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] And then inside the store, they had some cute little gifts that would be perfect for Mother’s Day. [Music] [Music] I think these little solar lights are so adorable that you can hang from trees or something like that. They actually give off quite a bit of light. [Music] And of course, the blue one is my favorite. I love this kind of dusty blue color. [Music] And this giant chicken that they have, they actually have a smaller version I’m going to show you coming up. You can also get if you don’t want a giant one. Cute little recipe box, a little bird plate, some mugs that go with it. Unfortunately, none of this is made in the USA. you know that I love products that are maybe Tractor Supply will start carrying some things in the future that are I think it would fit their brand really well if they did. When we first bought our property, we had one of these little um not a giant chicken, but one of those little ornamental windmills. My husband hit it with the tractor though, so we no longer have it. But let me show you the smaller version of this chicken. Isn’t that just the cutest thing? I almost got one. But I really want a hen. I don’t want a rooster cuz I don’t have roosters. I have hins, but they didn’t have a hen. And then here are the hummingbird feeders. I think Tractor Supply has the best selection of these blown glass hummingbird feeders. Well, summer blown glass. Um gosh, they’re just beautiful. So many colors. These would make great gifts. All right, and let’s head home and see what we ended up with. Okay, so I have the plants in two different spots, but we got a friesia, we got some kolas from my mom, we got some of this creeping jenny, and she also picked up a frost proof gardinia. And then I’ve got another set of plants that are already in another location downstairs. So, I’m going to go head down there. So, mama also picked up two of these ivy. These were on sale at Walmart. So, we got two of these. And these are everything we got was from Walmart. So, let me head down to the lower level. And then down here, I have already brought the rest of them. We have a beonia. That’s a beautiful color. Some kolas, another creeping jenny. Um, some lantana. And then this one, some lavender, and then she also got Is that interesting how that kolia is two different colors of pink and red in there? She got some good stuff. And then these little containers. We got these at Home Depot a couple weeks ago because she needed some more and they actually sold out of the large size. But anyway, we’re going to put all this together in a video with my mom and I coming up very soon. But we appreciate you guys watching. Hope that you have a great Mother’s Day and we’ll see you back here next time in the next video at the Real Southern Garden. Bye guys. [Music]

Pretty in blue! Love shopping with you!!
Those Hydrangeas were gorgeous!
Just found your videos and started watching my way through your videos because I’m in the Atlanta area AND I love that you are reading Mrs. Whaley’s Garden. I’m originally from Charleston and my grandmother and Mrs Whaley were friends. I have vague memories of visiting her garden as a child and the conch shells on the edge of the reflecting pool. I have two pieces of Mrs Whaley’s daughters art hanging in the entry of my home. Small world!
Oleander will survive your Winters if planted in a micro-climate area such as against your house on the south side.
