Starting to draw up some ideas to convert our small lawn to a combination of hardscape and perennials. It borders the road which is salted in the winter (Eastern Connecticut). Is there anything you would suggest along the front border besides mulch or rocks. It’s awkward because there’s no curb to keep anything from ending up in the road.

I don’t know much but don’t forget to double check what plants tolerate road salt.

What does this area get in the hours of sunlight? Shade, partial shade, full sun?

[Here’s](https://grownative.org/salt-tolerant-native-plants/) a helpful list of MO native perennials that are salt tolerant. Many overlap with us and are native here in CT too.

Anything that can grow near the shore is a good option. I have both beach plum and northern bayberry near the road, for example (if you’re considering shrubs), and they’re doing really well.
