Knowing when and how to feed your garden can be confusing. Most gardeners don’t take the time to perform soil tests and adding unneeded fertilizer to a garden is not ideal.
I choose to feed the soil microbes in my garden which will in turn feed my plants. The plants get to be in charge of what nutrients they want and when they get them.
Plants send signals to microorganisms in the soil to attract them to their root zone. The microorganisms then feed on a food source near the roots, excrete what they don’t need and the plants use their excretions to fuel themselves.
By supplying a food source for the microorganisms in your soil food web you are allowing the plants to be in control, and you are not force feeding them. More is not better when it comes to fertilizing.
Low NPK food sources are the best for soil microorganisms. Insect Frass has a 3-2-1 NPK and is the by product from black soldier fly larvae in insect farms.
Insect farms provide protein sources for animal feed and are more sustainable than fish hatcheries. By using the excrement of the soldier fly as plant food in our gardens it helps close the loop on on this important industry.

A couple weeks after planting out my summer garden, I like to make sure to give those plants a nice feeding. And the way I choose to do that, my favorite method is to mix up some insect frra tea. But there are no complicated recipes, no air raators needed. You simply just mix up frra and water. And the frra to water ratio is not exact. This is not baking. A couple tablespoons per jug and it’s good. Insect frra is the excrement of black soldierfly larvae. It also contains some of their crushed up exoskeletons which contains kiten which is great for your garden. Insect frustr is an allnatural plant food that is feeding the microorganisms in your soil which are in turn feeding your plants. And by feeding the soil, you’re allowing your plants to decide what nutrition they’re getting when. No force-feeding my plants synthetic fertilizers is happening here. I like to save our plastic juice containers because the lid makes it great for mixing it up. Also a good workout. And while my soil is very healthy, it has been feeding the fall and winter vegetables for a while now and could probably use a little extra food source for those microorganisms. One thing to keep in mind if you’re choosing to make insect frost tea is that not all of it will dissolve. There’ll be some sediment in the bottom of your container and all you have to do is swirl that around and pour all of it on the soil around your plants. This undissolved sediment is the kiten.

You ever mix up the jugs and drink the frass tea 😂
beautiful tip i’ve never heard of thank you i’ll be adding this to my shopping list!
Hey! Thanks a bunch for sharing ❤😊
It scared me when you were holding the frass tea and drinking from your thermos at rhe same time 😅😅😅 just like painters who use coffee cups to rinse their brushes. It's not a question of IF but WHEN a mistake will be made lol.
Never heard of this before, really cool, I don't use fertilizer, but I'd try this for sure, thanks!
I don’t even have a clue what frass is. 🤔
You just made it all up
What is it called? Insect? Tea
Where do you buy it??

I honestly just use other plants decomposed in water for a couple weeks then strained and mixed with water…. Like a nasty ass smelling tea
Um… where does one buy… bug poop? I am afraid to screw up my algorithm!
Hmm ill have to see if i can find this somewhere
Coffee Frass
Don’t mix it up.
Read somewhere that chitin also help against root nematodes so if true, then it's a great thing to add to soil.
The reason you should use air bubbler’s when making compost tea is it encourages good aerobic bacteria and fungal colonies to multiply while preventing bad anaerobic bacteria from growing, even 12 hours makes a world of difference in my experience.
Daaaam maaam your teaching me sooo much great channel.. from Mississippi
Instead , just start a Virmiculture setup, and use the fantastic black secretions of the worms! Incredible stuff !
Ive used bsf compost successfully when i had a ton of juicer waste…theyd break down a bag from one days worth of smoothies and juices in 2 weeks and it would be the best compost youve ever seen. Composted cricket flats for insects too
