As the summer months roll around, you’ll want to make sure your garden is looking the best it possibly can, and this simple tip could help. Gardening expert Fiona Jenkins from MyJobQuote.co.uk has shared her top tips for boosting your garden’s health and helping your plants grow. She says one way to boost your garden is to make your soil healthy.

Fiona says: “Good soil is the heart of a strong garden. When soil is healthy, plants grow faster, resist pests better, and yield more fruit. The trick to maintaining good soil health is to focus on building your living biology. Soil isn’t just dirt—it’s full of tiny microbes that help plants absorb nutrients. These microbes break down organic material, making food for roots.

“A garden with rich microbes grows stronger plants and stays healthier longer. You can encourage these naturally by avoiding chemical fertilisers and adding compost regularly.

“Using compost, mulch, and natural soil conditioners gives your soil the boost it needs.

“Compost made from kitchen scraps adds nutrients and boosts microbial life. Mulch keeps moisture in and suppresses weeds.”

But this isn’t the only tip she has shared, Fiona also says you should maximise space with vertical and container gardening.

If you have limited space in your garden, there’s lots of ways you can get creative to grow more with less room.

You can use trellises or wall-mounted planters to grow climbing plants like beans or tomatoes which will save space while also making harvesting easier.

Fiona also says that gardeners shouldn’t forget to make use of modern technology.

She says you should use modern tools to make gardening easier such as sensors which can tell you exactly when your plants need water or fertiliser.

If you’re planning on doing some planting, Fiona suggests planting in off numbers which will give your garden a more balanced look whilst also creating the illusion of plants being larger and even healthier than they really are.

By following these few garden tips, you can ensure your garden will be looking its best for this summer.
