I was out watering our side border today and have never really stopped to look at the shrubs and colour in our front garden as I rarely get out there to water the side border but felt the need given the lack of rain, the ground is literally baked hard now, it’s a wonder I’ve not lost plants as it’s all south facing.
It’s a great sunny spring for blossom, plants here include , Mexican orange blossom, Ceanothus, Korean Lilac, Spirea Goldflame, Deciduous Azaleas, two Rhododendrons and a big bunch of Rose campion which is flying up, the smell off the Azaleas, Mexican orange blossom and Korean Lilac is intense, in the dry air it just hits you, unreal fragrance, I’ve unintentionally created a fragrant border, complete accident.
Also got a Red Lupin in there I didn’t know I had, must have come on strong with the sun, no Slug or aphid attack, there’s some smaller evergreen Azaleas on the other side.
Long may this sun last ☺️
Thinking of taking up the small lawn and expanding the border to take up the lawn, less work on borders and more payback in the form of colour.
