Given the weather we’ve been having recently I’m not sure if I should replant or leave it alone

How the hell did you get a hosta with no slug, snail , bug bites , you are a wizard!

I’ve got the same hosta in a tub and it goes in the shed every night or else the slugs will demolish it

  3. Yeah, unfortunately it’s too late really now. It’s in full foliage and will be putting plenty on still so the energy is being directed towards that and not root growth. The best time to divide hostas is in early spring when they still have time to develop and repair their root system ready for the growing season.

Lovely specimen though, I love the form of hostas and the various colours. Such a shame they can get decimated by slugs.

Too late this year, yeah. You want to do it in winter or early spring.

Conventional wisdom says it’s too late now, but I divided and repotted a few last year around this time/with roughly the same amount of growth and they still thrived. One even flowered which was an unexpected treat as usually my hostas suffer something chronic with the slugs.

If it’s going to struggle in its current pot, you could take the chance. Otherwise, just wait a while longer and repot with peace of mind.

What a stunner! I find they’re better off in pots because you can shield them against slugs. I have copper tape round mine. You can divide them when they get too big but I’d just enjoy this one for now 😍

Early spring to divide them just as they are sprouting new growth. You could chop that into 4!
