Hi everyone, I got this flower last May and I got special soil for it, and the proper fertilizer after reading about what it needs. I fertilize every couple of weeks or so and try to keep the soil moist without being overly wet (watering every 2 weeks or so.) I also have the soil moisture checker.

My last few flowers have come out with little burnt looking chunks missing from them. I have the plant by a window, but I have white sheer curtains to protect it from sunburn, so I know it’s not sunburn. I don’t see any bugs on the outside of the plant or on the leaves.

My only guess is there might be something going on with the roots. It was very root bound before I transplanted it and maybe I should’ve loosened the roots around a bit more before transplanting? I did
stick a small wooden chopstick in there right after transplant to loosen the soil around there. My other suspicion is that the soil is just too packed down.

I looked at pictures of viral and bacterial infections. It doesn’t seem like this is the cause, but I’m not sure… The leaves are coming out healthy. There are two new flowers that have not uncurled yet… Don’t know if they are healthy or not.

  1. I would guess something went wrong while the flower was unfurling. Could be physical damage, low humidity, sun burn, or something else. If it’s just the flowers, not the leaves, I doubt it’s something with the roots. And just in case – you don’t have cats? Or anyone/thing else that could touch the flowers?

Always check roots first. Lost one to root rot last year. Had similar problems.
