This video shows you why i have my doubts about the location of my capital relative to the plate boundaries and especially the so-called Krísuvík volcanic system. There are geologists in Iceland who say the system has already awakened and it is only a matter of time before it leads to serious events, that could include the crater Búrfell. I’m not diving into that now, this only a short version to show you some of the elements by our capital Reykjavik since iv’e been filming around there for quite some time and i feel as it’s the time now to get going with several videos that cover all the major system since the last dike intrusion on the peninsula is getting too close to our homes.

What a uniquely beautiful landscape. Thank you for sharing!
Takk , Gylfi . The atmosphere in your clips is beautiful .
Thank you so much for all the work you do. I love your videos. Iceland packs such a variety of drama and beauty into so small a part of the planet's total surface area. You really highlight that, showing much more than just the volcanic eruptions.
.💙.
Wow! That is significant displacement!
As always Gylfi…a work of art…all while being educational ❤
THAT WAS FUN !
Enda sättet att dräpa lupiner är eld, het eld, av typen vulkaneld!
Tack för ny vacker video Gylfi.
Buerie Hïeljen!
Thank you Gylfi. Work of art as usual. sigh. Lovely. I have to watch things two or three times. This time is the second and I'm left with a feeling of dread and your video isn't so lovely any more.
Nicely done.
Bottom line is that Iceland IS a volcano(!) not just a "volcanic island" very much like Hawaii.
Shake, rattle and smoke can happen at any time.
I think they need to invest in bigger pumps and land moving equipment ……
And some Serious Redundancy in power supply, water and communication hardware.
Beautiful
Thank you Gylfi!
This video clearly shows just how close some of the "ancient" seismic and volcanic activity is, and why you keep saying "move our capital". My question is – where would you move the capital to on your small island that isn't subject to very harsh winter weather, or subject to volcanic, seismic or flood threats? Having had a look around your country I can't see anywhere large enough and flat enough so can you help me please?
Very impressive footage description. 😊
Wonderful excursion beautifully filmed and described with maps and screen notes ! The first time I came to Iceland all the lupins were in flower – stunning and mesmerising ! Lupins have been a big favourite since my childhood garden. Is it true seed is thrown from helicopters/planes ? And they are to fix nitrogen in the soil that is forming after the mossy stage ?
I was still thinking about your last video of the bardabunga Vulcano, and you said that it will be a devastating blow for Iceland. But I think it would be a blow for a bit more…. That huge glacier that is covering the bardabunga will most likely melt. What gives the Atlantic again a surge in a lot of freshwater. The amoc cannot handle the amount of freshwater already. So a big change that it will give an extra push to stopping the amoc. And what about the amount of ash going into the sky? That will also reduce the temperature around the world…. All in all I think we are doomed when it goes 😂😮
The history of volcanoes in Iceland is amazing.
Love the film
😎😎😎👍👍👍
Great video 🙏 (audio is a little ‘hot’ & distorting on my device by the way)
I've just started dabbaling in geology – so pls excuse the noob question – but is that a feature of extension tectonics or is it just the result of a magma chamber collapse?
Fantastic overview Gylfi! When I was living in Kópavogur, I noticed that some parts of the old lava streams reached the sea right through the suburbs. Even the IKEA is located in old lava fields. Quite scary to think that a whole urban area was built on old lava streams and that it could happen again. The city doesn't seem to be prepared well enough to handle a scenario like that. I find it hard to believe they built a dense urban area in Vellir where the old lava streams flowed as well.
Gylfi my friend…thank you for this stunning video…I'm just off to watch it again😃🌠
Great footage!!
Hi Thank you for good information in details. Quite exciting for us that will visit Reykjavik for 2 days 30th-31th. May.
Greeting from Stockholm – Sweden 🌷🌷🌷🌲🌲🌲🌲
Love these videos ❤
I like when you speak in your videos! “Hello! And greetings from ICELAND!”
Thanks G. Fascinating.
Di…Cumbria.
Naples says "Hold my beer" 😜
Impressive! The annotations help a lot to understand the story. When did Búrfell break out? (Or was it mentioned and I missed it?)
Thank you.
"We tried to hide it w lupine" 😂 Always a joy to watch your fine videos.
When they get done building dikes at the power plant, this huge trough would be a good place to build a lava containment tub by just adding a dam, at the lower end.
Fantastic and educational video presentation! Thank you!
Thank you again for a wonderful and informative video!
Looks like a rift valley in the making.
Gylfi, you mention fault lines around Reykjavik, and now there is a little seismic swarm just to the southeast of town. Coincidence?
Saell Gylfi minn! Magnadhar myndir, godh tonlist. Takk! Beztu kvedhjur, Billi.
This reminds me if Auckland.. built on dormant (?) volcaoes, and Taupo, on the edge of a cauldera…
Thank you.
Lupines do make a nice distraction. I appreciate your sense of humor. If this is part of Krisuvik system I certainly hope that one doesn't activate and if it does this part of it stays quiet. I have to think that they need to address where they build for the city in future a little better considering all the unrest in that part of your country. I know you've mentioned that in previous videos and I've heard comments from some of the scientists there saying similar. Though with all the activity on the peninsula and other systems to the north and east it makes it kind of difficult!
Renting suddenly makes a whole lot more sense 😅
Not just beautiful landscapes and information and music, but also life advice: Depression vanishes under lupins! 🤗
Everything in one video! Ace! 🤩
Gylfi, have you had any communication with Hliarmenn lately, He’s not posted for months of YouTube. Very odd. HI hope he is ok.
Passionnant, impressionnant, effrayant pour les habitants de Reykjavik…Merci Gilfy.
Thank you Gylfi!
Beautiful, interesting, informative and just so well put together, as usual. Thank you, Gylfi.
Gylfi, your channel is great. you have both great video of ladnscape, the explanation and all the rest. I hope the geologues and volcanologist all over the world thank you for putting pictures over all what they teach.
Thanks once more.
How do we know it's a fault and not the edge of an old lava flow?
