Worst advise would be to mist plants

  2. jinglejanglemyheels

“It will drink when it needs to”. No, the soil will saturate and want to stay saturated and the plant drowns.

  3. Keep the soil wet at all times, no matter the plant.

  4. People who water on schedules, as if it’s some sort of guarantee. “This plant is yellowing, turning black, and smells gross. I am watering it 1 gallon every week like always, therefore I know that can’t be the problem, even though it is now monsoon season. So what could be wrong?”

Not quarantining new plants… some people don’t see the use, and those same people must have never lost their entire collection to thrips

“I think you’ve got too many”

  7. madeat1am

Not advice I got but I did buy some $2 succulents and their roots were wrapped in newspaper.

They must od been so relieved when I repotted them

  8. Legitimate-Slip-1484

Watering on scedule without checking soil.
    And Spraying/misting them 😂.

  9. sapphoisbipolar

Succulents are easy, you can ignore them

The “taco test” is pretty awful (only water when you can bend the leaves like a soft taco). People say this about Hoyas and like, noooo. Also the idea that Hoyas can go weeks without water, the thick leaves ones you should allow to have the substrate dry out but then water very well as soon as it does.

Also the concept of “low light” plants.

I might get killed for this but here I go:
You should wait 10 days (or any other arbitrary number) before repotting a new plant.

  12. agangofoldwomen

Monstera Deliciosa don’t need much light.

  13. tommyfreestyle

(insert plant here) *thrives* in dark places. survives, yeah sure, but to say they thrive is either click baiting or not knowing what the word “thrive” means

  14. P3nnyCandy

The stupid app that tells you to scan a sick plant and then add milk or sugar. Wtf?

  15. Succulents and cacti are carefree and good for beginners, despite it just being another rabbit hole when it comes to care and infrastructure and mistakes are often irreversible.

  16. Angio_sperm

I’ve never really understood destroying a plants entire foundation of roots when repotting, then being surprised when it gets “transplant shock” because its not taking up water properly anymore. I’ve never done it and never will and I have zero problems when I repot.

  17. noblecloud

Putting mayonnaise on the leaves to make them shinier

  18. Buerostuhl_42

Misting leaves in a normal room (and misting all plants).

  19. bestbangsincethbig1

Lithops only want 5 hours of light per day, from the shipper!!

  20. perfectdrug659

Succulents being marketed as easy, low maintenance plants you can stick on a table or in a dark bathroom for decoration. Unless you live near the equator or have grown lights, they are going to die from lack of light.

  21. Weavercat

Placing crushed ice for orchids instead of watering and letting water just drain away.

  22. PoundC4ke

Water on a schedule. Cacti and succulents are care-free.
Oh, and why did no one ever tell me to quarantine new plants😭 I lost them all from a new purchase once.

  23. Rimbaudelaire

It’s a tie between watering them… or not watering them.

  24. CarefreeCaos-76299

“Cacti and succulents are EASY beginner plants, i wouldnt worry about those big foliage plants though, theyre too hard” dude, i followed this advice for years, leaving a trail of dead squishy and dried out succulents and cacti in my wake. Until i finally got the BALLS to buy a pothos, and my world changed

  25. Erika348o

I saw someone on a thread that said ficus plants eat their soil. No, no they do not.

  26. Azlanthir

Mist the plants you have and schedule water time. Lost a few plants bc of this and never understood why, now I know…
