I bought this about 5 months ago, and it’s just stayed the same since. I assumed the orange part in the middle would open and flower but nothing has changed and there’s no new leaf growth.
Is this plant just super slow to do anything? I keep it in indirect light (only moved to sunlight to take pictures) and I water it about once a month.

Looks real from the imperfections at the bottom. Try to rip off one of the bottom leaves, or press your nail into one. If it leaves a dark green imprint or lets out liquid, it’s real.
press your nail in it
What kind of plant is this
It’s a bromeliad. It is blooming and will for awhile, that’s just how the bloom looks. It looks happy. You can repot it if you wish and it may grow larger. It will also produce pups near the base of the plant.
This is real! Looks like Vriesea carinata.
I had one and thought I failed it when it passed away abruptly. But they actually only flower once, then die. It was so sad but so pretty. They can last for months, though, but dont be shocked when it turns browns and doesn’t come back to life with love and care.
Keep an eye out for any pups! I wasn’t so lucky.
I just looked up why mine did have pups and it says to cut the flower off when it starts to wilt so the plant will redirect energy to making babies!
It’s definitely real. It’s also definitely dying.
You didn’t do anything wrong. When Bromeliads flower, they can no longer produce new leaves. So, for a time, you’re going to have a beautiful flower or two. Then, the plant will start producing pups from the base of the plant.
Eventually, your primary plant there will wither away and die, but you’ll have 1-4 new plants replacing it.
is a bromelia, it grows small crates in trees, or at the bottom of trees, were is not much light. In my mothers house they had a tree stump in the shadows, with some soil, and bromelias planted all over it.
