The body of a missing woman was found with stab wounds to the neck and chest in the garden of her estranged husband, an inquest has heard. The body of Paria Veisi, 37, was found in Cardiff on April 16 after being reported missing on April 13 to South Wales Police.
Two people have been arrested in connection with Ms Veisi’s death and remain in police custody amid an ongoing homicide investigation. Police launched a murder investigation which centred around a black Mercedes GLC 200 that Ms Veisi had last been seen driving on April 12 after leaving work at around 3pm. The car was later found at a residential address on April 15 in Penylan, near Roath in Cardiff.
Police officers attended the address on the same day, Pontypridd Coroner’s Court heard, and on April 16, officers returned and found Ms Veisi’s body in the garden.
Coroner Patricia Morgan said at the hearing on Thursday: “On the basis of evidence set out this morning in respect of Paria Veisi I have reason to suspect her death might be violent in nature.
“This morning I opened the inquest into Ms Veisi’s death but I have been informed by South Wales Police that there is an ongoing homicide investigation with potential proceedings to follow.
“I therefore suspend this inquest until such a time when criminal proceedings have reached their conclusion.”
Alireza Askari, 41, first appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on April 22 charged with Ms Veisi’s murder, preventing a lawful and decent burial of a dead body, and assaulting a person occasioning actual bodily harm.
Maryam Devlavary, 48, of White City, London, also appeared in court and is charged with preventing a lawful and decent burial of a dead body and conspiring to pervert the course of justice.
Both suspects will appear again in court on May 16.
Ms Veisi’s close friend, Sara Rezaei, paid tribute to her friend before the service, saying: “Paria wasn’t just someone in the headlines—she was a kind, caring, and vibrant soul who brought joy to everyone around her.
“She was caring, selfless and always ready to help. We are devastated, heartbroken, and still in shock.”
When Ms Veisi’s body was found, South Wales Police Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Matt Powell, said: “This brings our search for Paria to a sad and tragic end. Paria’s family, all those who knew her, and those in her local community, will be deeply saddened and shocked by these latest developments.”
