The park district also used the gathering to promote gardening practices that support pollinators and preserve native plant species in Auglaize County.

The Heritage Trails Park District hosted its annual Gardener’s Swap and Share at the St. Marys Community Public Library. The event gave community members the opportunity to give away plant species and pick up something new for their gardens. The owner of Forage Gardens, Alicia Lensch, attended the event to speak about the importance of planting native Ohio species to help local gardens thrive.

“I think the most important part of the local garden swap is sharing seeds that are adapted to our local environment, particularly with our natives and our edibles. They’re more likely to thrive, and we can diversify genetics, which creates more reliability in our plants. So, actually, these local swaps are the best possible way to get your seeds and plants,” says Alicia Lensch, Owner, Forage Gardens.

The park district also used the gathering to promote gardening practices that support pollinators and preserve native plant species in Auglaize County.

“This is a way for us to get information out to the community and and and grow with the native plants. Have have some things going on with native plants and and conservation, and whether it’s a flower garden at your house or whether it’s a big farm field that you want to convert into something natural,” says PJ Fought, Executive Director, Heritage Trails Park District.
