Thanksgiving cactus blooming…in May? Not really looking for “help” because it seems otherwise healthy, but curious if anyone else has had 2 blooms within 6 months. It had a full bloom around December (approx 30 blooms). Been kept indoors with only full morning light. It didn’t do this last year and I’ve kept it in the same spot.

    That’s so interesting!

I thought that they only bloomed once a year, with the timing based on their names. E.g. Thanksgiving cactus blooms in fall, Christmas cactus in winter, and Easter cactus in spring.

TIL they can bloom more than once a year. Now I’m excited! Recently was given a holiday cactus that I THINK is a thanksgiving cactus. Guess we’ll wait and see when he decides to give me some flowers.

Yes, it’s normal for this cactus when it gets sufficient sunlight and nutrients. It means it’s happy.

They flower/ spike when the temperature drops 5 to 10° F. Betting your air conditioning kicked in! You can identify whether you have a Christmas Easter or Thanksgiving, cactus by the shape of the leaves. Surprise blooms always make me happy too! And I always enjoy the blooms on my Schlumbergera. The way they almost fold inside out fascinates me.

Mine has also been in bud since February, I don’t understand. Lol

  5. My Thanksgiving cactus blooms 2 times a year, and last year three times. If it gets enough light and watered when it’s thirsty then it’ll just keep on rolling.

    Same here.

I bought mine last Dec, it had many flower buds at the time and some were blooming. However, the flower buds fell off very soon. I think it might because it didn’t adapt to my home well. I also haven’t taken good care of it since than.

Surprisingly, it flowered in this early May although it had only 1 bloom.

It’s pretty ironic seeing posts like these, because I live in southern Brazil, the original habitat of Thanksgiving Cacti, and we know them here as “May flowers” because they bloom precisely every May

Mine does the same thing every year, flowering has a mind of its own …

I suspect it has something to do with me watering only when leaves look dehydrated, so when it gets water from bottom watering, it thinks it’s flower time and puts out a few flowers

I just repotted mine cuz it was getting a bit top-heavy, so I repotted it in a wider pot and gave it a good drink and tripped the flower process again …

One of mine is currently flowering with white flowers, but last time it bloomed maybe two months ago, they were pink. 🤷‍♀️ They live in a south window in like zone 8b. I love them but they really make me feel like I have no clue what I’m doing.

My Thanksgiving cactus blooms several times a year. Most recently within the last three months. My Easter cactus also blooms several times a year. With its most prolific bloom, usually around sixty blooms, occurring in July. My holiday cactus usually never bloom around the holidays they are named for.

They flower when they feel like it tbh lol.

I had a holiday cactus when I was a kid that bloomed once and never again. I thought it was so cool but was so bummed that it never bloomed again and eventually died.

My wife brought me home a Christmas cactus in November. It’s had 3 separate blooms since then. Nice surprise.
