MISSOULA, Mont. – Wednesday night,  Missoula honors fallen law enforcement officers at the Rose Garden Memorial. This event, marking its 25th year, is a powerful tradition for the community and officers alike.

The memorial begins at 7:00 p.m. on the Mount Avenue side of Rose Garden Park. It features a presentation of colors, a wreath-laying, and a moment of silence to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Community members, local officials, and retired law enforcement are expected to attend.

Chief Michael Colyer of the Missoula Police Department shared the significance of the event. “It’s a really special event to me and the department. You know, it means a lot to our officers to know that we are remembering other officers who served before us in the past,” he said.

This year is especially significant as it marks the silver anniversary of the memorial. The planning is a joint effort between Missoula Police and the County Sheriff’s Office, who alternate hosting duties annually. The ceremony also acknowledges retired officers who have passed away in the last year.

Public Information Officer Whitney Bennett emphasized the importance of the memorial. “Every year is important. This is a very emotional and important memorial that we participate in and we want to make every year unique,” she stated.

Road closures around the park are set to begin at 6:30 p.m. to allow for the honor guard procession. The ceremony is open to the public, and officers appreciate the presence of attendees, even if they don’t have a personal connection to the event.
