In the past week we have seen a massive increase in the birds discovering and enjoying the bird bath. We have seen pigeons, wrens, robins and this blackbird. Some are drinking, some are bathing. I change the water daily. It has been in this part of the garden for about two weeks now. The pictures are a bit rubbish as we were in the kitchen looking out and zooming in!

What a lush looking garden! And everyone should have a bird bath or several. They are so important to our feathered friends when the weather is like this!

  2. Normally the wood pigeons perch on the rim of our water butt and drink from there, but recently with the dry weather they couldn’t reach down far enough and looked like they might fall in while trying to get a drink. Other spots like gutters where birds might usually get some water were dry too.

I set up 2 ‘bird baths’ (actually plant pot saucers – one large saucer and one smaller with stones in it) and lots of birds have been enjoying them. Blackbirds (male and female) have been enjoying taking baths in the larger saucer and pigeons/sparrows/blue tits have been enjoying drinking and splashing around in the other saucer.
