I’m starting to think weeds and roaches are actually not that bad cuz at first I thought it was a good idea to do this all around the house. Dig up the weeds, cover the soil, and put rocks and pavers on top to make a little path. This was supposed to keep the sides of our house clean and make our yard more lowmaintenance. But damn, we’ve only done a couple signs so far. And I’m thinking, um, maybe we should have just left the trashy little weeds. Bring them back. But problem is, we have piles of pavers and rocks we already purchased, and they cost more than our car. So, we got to work till they run out. And we originally planned to finish our entire front yard makeover before summer comes, but o, I think we’re about to be burnt toast. Luckily, I’m Hispanic, so my skin turns a dark caramel. Sun-kissed, some would say. But my poor husband, John the Builder, um, he’s more like crispy bacon. So, we’re laying these little papa, and you see how John’s always squatting when he works, and I’m just there sitting. Yeah. So, I’m always like, “How come you’re so fit? We both do housework.” Uh, two plus two, honey. But guess what? We finished the path. And if you look further down, you’ll see what’s left to do on this sideyard. So wish me luck.

  1. It looks great but I hate to say this but this will not be low maintenance. I guess it will be low maintenance for about a year, the dirt will naturally start to build up on top of the rocks and weeds can grow on anything even rocks. 😢

  2. Crispy bacon lol I’m the same as you. Hispanic so I tan nicely but my husband and kids turn into little shrimps!

  3. Nothing is easy when it comes to houses. So as someone who is more like your husband, make sure he's wearing lots of sunscreen and you too. Even though you tan you still can get issues. Don't take a chance! Don't think me when you're older😊

  4. Get that man some spf pants/shirt/ hat they work for those of us who don’t tan only burn (me, I only burn, then turn pale again)

  5. Yes!!! My husband burns and same with our kids! I’m the only one who can withstand the sun turning a rich brown, thank the Lord for my melanin I don’t have to worry so much, but with my kids I’m having to learn different ways to protect from the sun!

  6. Just another advantage of hard scape next to the house, in addition to removing pest habitats-helps with splashback on walls when it storms. And it works as a bit of a firebreak if it is wide enough 😊

  7. If you really want a durable low-maintenance hardscape, you need a system to stabilize the rocks and have quite a deep bed. These will need to be raked and regraded regularly. Weeds might still be an issue due yo how shallow the stone is.

  8. My parents did the white rock thing and man i HATED it. Yes very pretty but my god they never stayed in place. I had to rake them so much and when the dogs pooped on the white rocks it made it such a pain to clean up cause then you had to go and shower the rocks to clean whatever smudges where left on the rocks and they did it alot so eventually the smell just seeped into the soil. I cannot not recommend it enough. I ended pulling it all up later and putting down fake grass where the white rocks where. Just as pretty, more walkable less maintenance but admittedly more costly.

  9. Wind carries soil and weed seeds. Soil lands in your rocks and weeds pop up. Should have just used mulch and saved 💰and labor.
