Anthuriums. My first was a magnificum and I knew almost nothing about it when I first bought it. She threw the biggest fit when I moved her to ambient conditions, but once she acclimated and was done being dramatic, she put out her first emergent and I was hooked. Now I have like 20+ anthuriums. Very rewarding plants imo, and not as hard as some people make them out to be.

Peace lily Indonesia I love Peace Lilies but for me this one looked like it has some parasites. But now I have one and it grows really fast and it bloomed twice this year.
This one, it came with a terrarium building workshop and I was never really a fan until I took it out of the terrarium

Ok probably unpopular, but pilea. I loved it, then hated it, and now I accept it. Everyone’s I saw was lush and almost like a bush. But my gal Is mostly stalks that drop leaves except to tops. (I’d love advise if someone know how to solve this!)
My calatheas. My first, I basically completely killed off, cut it down to maybe two surviving leaves and it’s come back and is so happy. I like the toxic energy they give lmao they’re rewarding once you figure out what each individual plant needs.
I used to hate money trees and never got one because they’re so common, and I hated the look of the braided trunks. Then I saw a big, healthy, inexpensive one at Costco and went for it. It’s now one of my favorite plants.

I love any houseplant that isn’t a pain in the a** to grow! 🪴

ZZ plants. Just kinda underwhelmed by them, but I bought one and it’s gotten a foot taller in just a little over a month. It needs almost no care or attention, I call it the EZ plant.

Hibiscus – They constantly kept dying when I was helping my mother take care of one only to realize that there are a LOT of variations out there and it was just a matter of selecting a variant that could handle Texas summers.
Now I am looking to grow variants here in the midwest (Zone 5A)
This pothos (not quite sure the variation, I’m pretty sure it’s Global Green) is my first pothos ever, but I made the mistake of buying it from easyplant and two days after I got her she started dying dramatically, I was like “Are all pothos this difficult?” 😭 Fortunately though, I repotted her in a smaller pot with a soil mixture for better drainage and gave her a grow light and she’s been thriving ever since! This is her just now!

I refuse to be bested by lithops. Stupid little butts. After killing many I’ve finally figured out a good watering cycle and inorganic soil mixture.

Begonias. My first was just a one leaf red kiss that was completely underwhelming. Now it’s big and beautiful. I have about 45 different varieties of begonias now and love them all. And I just ordered a Ferox, a pavoniana, another blue begonia, and two others.

Polka dot plant. So finicky and temperamental, wilts the second you displease it even slightly.
