The RHS has announced a new rose named after Catherine, Princess of Wales – a beautiful coral-pink floribunda rose, richly fragranced with hints of Turkish Delight and mango.

The resilient bush rose, aptly named Catherine’s Rose, celebrates the healing power of nature and promotes spending time outdoors to support our mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing.

Bred by Harkness Roses, Catherine’s Rose will thrive in a mixed border, as a hedge, in a large container, or in a rose bed. Flowering from July to September, the abundant flowers will also attract pollinators, making it a brilliant choice for a blooming summer garden.

‘The Rose’s serene beauty with its sweet, strong perfume are almost bound to give us a little spike in our endorphins, making us feel that our world is a better place,’ say Harkness Roses, world-leading breeders and RHS Chelsea Flower Show regulars.

Proceeds (£5 for every plant sold) will be donated to the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity – the princess was treated at the west London hospital for cancer last year.

The Princess of Wales announced she was in remission during a surprise visit to the hospital in January, where she said there was ‘light at the end of the tunnel’. She revealed her diagnosis in March 2024 and underwent a course of preventative chemotherapy, announcing in September that it had been completed.

‘As well as supporting the incredible work of The Royal Marsden, Catherine’s Rose will raise awareness of how nature and gardening can help to heal. We know how important this message is as every day we see how accessing nature and being outside is vital for our health and happiness,’ says Clare Matterson, RHS Director General. ‘Crucially too, Harkness Roses has done a wonderful job breeding this spectacular rose that is going to bring so much joy to all our nation’s gardeners and keep our precious pollinators buzzing too! It’s a really special rose.’

The rose plant is robust and bushy – clusters can have up to 15 blooms, with each flower measuring between 8 and 12 cm. In average conditions, Catherine’s Rose will grow about 1.2m tall by 90cm wide.

Where to buy:

Catherine’s Rose is available to purchase now from roses.co.uk and rhsplants.co.uk. It’s available by pre-order only and will be delivered in autumn 2025 as a bare-root plant. The bare-root rose costs £29.99 and the potted plant £34.99.

We’re told there will be 15,000 roses available in the first instance, with more available in spring and autumn 2026.
