So rare now. I saw grass snakes, adders and slowworms a lot as a kid. Now, they seem rare.

I almost cycled over a grass snake a few summers ago. Scared my socks off but didn’t seem to faze the noodle.

I have one that lives in my garden. I’ve never managed to get as close to him as you have though OP. Mine heads for the horizon the second he senses people are around.

I grew up in Southern Africa. My initial instinct when I 1st saw a grass snake in UK was to run like fuck and find a large shooty stick. Turns out they are top lads and should be looked after.
