I want to string trim around my dogwoods but I’m afraid of spinning up debris/rocks/wood and chipping or denting these cars. Am I obligated to protect them before using equipment around the curb?

I would string trim only from right to left(if you are facing the front of the cars), so that the trimmings are directed across the sidewalk and not towards the cars.

If you feel safe doing so, find the owners and explain what you need to do. Hopefully, they are understanding.

I had to avoid mowing a strip in the front yard so I didn’t damage someone’s truck. The next 2 days, it rained. Was annoying, but it does happen that you have to delay.

  3. My neighbors do it too when they have plenty of curb space and drive way in front of their home. I kept asking them to move so I could do my lawn. Now I just do it.

  4. Just do it. You clearly live in a city, that’s all part of living in a city. Your car might get dinged up a little sometimes.

  5. Keep a large cardboard box next time you get a large delivery, open it up and put it up against the parked cars to keep from damaging them when using the string trimmer.

As a company owner I’m responsible, you as a homeowner… what are they gonna do leave you a bad review? Ask them to move if it’s a one time thing, but if it’s the same cars over and over let er rip

  7. there is no etiquette. you want to maintain your lawn, do it. if you happen to get shit on their car or rocks chip the paint…oh well. 😉

I don’t hesitate to do the yardwork but try not to fling rocks at the cars

Depends on where the cars are from. Neighborhood block? Be extra careful. Cars who are parked 2-5 blocks away from an Apartment complex. I would make sure to damage it. Dafuq they parking here for. Not my fault their landlord didn’t provide enough parking and not my fault they 20+ people living in a 1 bedroom.

I would just set up a piece of cardboard or a lawn chair on its side, to protect the cars. Nothing crazy, but just a small step to somewhat protect someone else’s things.

  11. The landscapers at my old place in LA would use their leaf blowers to blow all the dust and debris toward the street where my car was parked at 6-7am in the morning. All that dust would hit the morning dew on the car and then dry into the wax. Once a year I’d have to do crazy amounts of clay bar treatment because parts of the car started to feel like shark skin. So as long as you’re not waking everyone up so blow dirt onto their car you’re good.

I’d be respectful but it comes with parking on a street. Lived in Chicago for 20 years and you can’t expect people to not maintain their property because someone decided to park there.

  13. I had this problem with my neighbor. 3 car garage with a wide driveway and he insisted on parking in front of my house. I’ve always felt I’m not obligated to do anything, considering he knows I do the same routine every few days. But I also give his car a blow off with the blower to knock off debris and dust… this is a neighbor I like tho.

If they are parked in front of my house it’s fair game

I mow, I trim, and I set up sprinklers. I am not responsible for washing the hard water stains off your paint or windows should you park where you do.

let it rip, if they didnt want chips they shouldn’t have parked there

  17. My neighbors and their frequent visitors park in front of my house a lot. I just do what I gotta do. Ain’t nobody got time to hunt down who’s vehicle is parked out there and ask them to move it.

As someone who cuts grass for a living, they should’ve considered this before they parked in front someone else’s house. If they care enough they’ll move it when they hear you cutting. Just don’t break a window

I run them over with my EV zero turn. The noise is fantastic. The irony is not lost on them when they witness the glorious carnage.

  20. Do they never leave or something? It would take like 5 minutes if they ever do lol. Sucks having to run out there like that but otherwise could ask them. I have both my neighbors cell phone so I would just text them..

I stopped caring. My neighbor parks intentionally in front of my property so I blow the grass on their car. Too many times I’ve asked, too many times do they not care.

I never hesitate to break windows in order to get my hose through for emergency watering.
