Chip Gaines saved the day after an unwanted guest slithered its way into his garden.

On May 6, Chip’s wife Joanna posted a clip on Instagram of the couple’s lush, fairytale-like garden, with an added surprise at the end as Chip appears from inside the shed with a snake dangling from a stick.

It was such a pretty evening in the garden until šŸšŸ˜³,” the Magnolia Home founder wrote in the caption. “Thank you @chipgaines for relocating the rat snake!” The video is soundtracked to the Foo Fighters hit “My Hero.”

Fans were impressed with Chip’s nonchalant approach to removing the snake.

“I love how insanely comfortable Chip looks doing this šŸ˜‚ might as well be a piece of laundry to pick up,” one wrote.

“And he looks so proud šŸ˜‚šŸ™Œ” said another.

One commenter pointed out that the snake was a good sign and indicated a thriving green space.

This is a sign of health in your garden,” they explained. “Find a sunny spot, put a big flat stone for them to warm themselves. They will keep all of the pests and rodents away.”

Rat snakes are often found in woodlands and around farm buildings. Although they may look intimidating due to their large size — they can grow up to eight feet long — they are non-venomous and do not usually attack when they feel threatened.

In March 2024, the Magnolia blog shared a tour of the stunning garden at their farm home in Waco, Texas.

“It’s not like me to invest in transitory things. I tend to put my trust in what’s lasting, and I thrive on consistency, on certainty. And yet, we have a garden on our farm,” Joanna wrote in the post. “Over time our garden has grown, changed size and shape, its purpose evolving with it. What began as a shy interest in growing some vegetables for dinner has turned into a love of place.”
