What are your thoughts on how to approach soil regeneration with the back yard I moved into?

I don’t see much of an issue with the soil. There are plants volunteering nicely in it – mostly pioneer plants like wild lettuce, from what I see – and from the little bit I can see in that last picture of the actual soil it doesn’t look barren, although a better picture of the soil surface itself would be helpful. If you’re talking about the patchiness, it’s likely due to the old layer of mulch that’s on there.

What’s your goal for regeneration? Is there an issue you have that you’re trying to address? There’s no “perfect” soil, despite what many will tell you; certain plants like certain soil compositions more than others. Clay is great for some and hell for others – same goes for sand, silt, and even loamy soil.
