Sweet peas make perfect little cut flowers. A few in a vase give both lovely colour and a lovely smell indoors. They grow very well up obelisks, trellises, fence frames, and plant supports.
Sweet peas are hungry plants that need feeding and watering regularly for best results. I feed my sweet peas every two weeks and ensure the compost is moist. The more we tend to them and the more we cut the flowers, the more they will give us—a relentless little flowering plant. The smell of the flowers lingers in the garden during the summer.
The cone obelisk is a stunning decoration for the garden, and it can take pride of place in my garden.
I plant my sweet peas in a circular tub and sit the obelisk inside, allowing the sweet peas to fly up the metalwork and take over for the summertime.
The time has come to prepare for summer, and it starts with the sweet peas for me.
