Hey All,
My first post and wanted to share a little nature pond I’ve been building with my kids.
I spotted a largish black Tub in the middle of Lidl garden event for £5.99 so I thought that looked good as a base for a little pond.
So we dug it out. (Hard going with heavy clay Derbyshire soil)
We then got some pebbles from the garden centre £15
And I got 4 plants
1 x Butomus (£5.75)
1 x Schizostylis (£5.75)
1 x Dwarf Lilly (£22 🤪)
2 x oxygenaters (£5)
We’ve created a stone ramp in and out and lots of hiding holes for bugs.
I’ve ordered a solar fountain to get some movement but it’s not there yet.
I used a mix of tap water and rain water so I know it will need to rest for a while.
What do you think?
Any ideas how I could improve it?
First time I’ve done anything like this….

Can’t add anything but this has really inspired me! If anyone has any tips to add for myself and OP please share
This is beautiful, hope you and your children make lots of memories
Looks great. Well done
This looks fantastic and the perfect time to do it, the birds will be grateful for a place to drink and wash in the busy nesting season. The only thing I could suggest to improve it is to maybe take a tiny bit out of your lawn to make that front stone bit a bit more gradual and add some smaller stones. The variety will benefit more species and birds in particular like a beachy area to approach rather than going straight in. You’ve chosen some great plants that will grow fairly quickly and more plants mean more shelter from predators for the birds, toads, hedgehogs and insects that will hopefully come to use your pond. Keep in mind that for toads and frogs to lay spawn they would need still water so you might not get those with the water fountain. Well done, it really does look great.
Once the nature has got in, how does it get out again? That stone at the back looks quite steep.
Your Solomon’s Seal’s look lovely – I feel like it’s not a plant you see that often
Looks cool! You’ve inspired me. 🙂
That is so cool!!!
