welcome to my Channel today we are diving into how to find amazing garden supplies tools and Decor on Facebook Marketplace I’m sharing five essential tips to get the best deals highlight the most sought-after Garden items and will even suggest some creative unusual things you can upcycle for your garden [Music] hey y’all it’s Amanda and this is my Texas Zone 8 Garden and before we dive in be sure to like this video subscribe to the channel and share this video with a fellow gardening friend okay so today’s video is a highly anticipated highly requested video for like the last year and a half and I apologize that it’s taken me so long to get together I was trying to decid if I wanted to divide it up into multiple videos and then just decided to put it all in one but today what we’re going to do is we’re going to go over five tips for shopping on Facebook Marketplace for garden items and supplies so Facebook Marketplace is hands down my favorite place to buy gardening stuff um it tends to be very budget friendly um I find very unique and interesting items and I just really enjoy the process process of it absolutely love it and when I say Facebook Marketplace that doesn’t necessarily mean only going to somebody’s house to pick up an item quite frequently on Facebook Marketplace you’re going to see a garage sales posted um last year I saw a Decor or a rental Warehouse going out a business and they were selling a ton of stuff and I got some really great finds from that as well um but there are lots of other things listed within Facebook Marketplace places events and such that you can go to as well not just going to somebody’s home to pick up something however I will say most of it is just going to a neighbor’s house to buy something from them so I want to talk about the tips for shop shopping on Facebook Marketplace I also am going to talk about the most sought after Garden um items that people are looking for on Facebook Marketplace and we’re going to talk about unique items to upcycle for your garden so it’s kind of a long video I couldn’t decide of going to divide it into two but I decided let’s just put it all in one and go for it okay we’re going to start start with the five tips for shopping on Facebook Marketplace so number one use specific Search terms which sounds silly right you can absolutely go in and put Garden or gardening in there and you’re going to get a ton of stuff which is sometimes really fun to go through but when you’re searching for items and speci specifity specifity being specific is your best friend um it will really cut down on you know your search time and really hone in to the different things that might be in there on Facebook Marketplace Facebook Marketplace algorithm has gotten so much better over the years so it’s a way it does a way better job pulling things up that might be similar to your search so instead of typing Planters you might use something like terracotta Planters or large outdoor Planters or instead of the word Planters you use containers right so you can be really specific with some of your Search terms to kind of really narrow it down and hone in what you’re looking for if you’re doing something and you’re looking for like tools you can definitely just put in gardening tools but you can go in there be really specific you use brand names um or materials such as like a fiskers pruning shears or stainless steel Spade just to kind of really narrow it down a lot of times if you put in gardening Spade you’re going to get all those cheap plastic ones from Dollar Tree which people try to resell on Facebook Marketplace all the time they’ll buy it for a dollar brand new and then try to resell it for 250 so you definitely want to be aware about aware of that but you definitely want to be very specific when searching so using words like vintage rustic or handmade can also uncover some really Unique Treasures um and you might want to be able to do that you know like vintage Garden uh vintage gardening containers really just kind of being a little bit more specific to kind of get narrow the feel to exactly what you’re looking for the another tip when you’re searching your terms is you want to make sure to save your searches and set set alarms um so that you’re notified when new items matching your criteria are listed this is the number one way that I get to things quickly all the time people are like how’ you find that blah blah blah this is how I do it I search I save my search and I set a little notification you can do it all on the Facebook Marketplace app and it will send you a little alarm when something that you have been looking for gets listed for the first time and then if you really want it you can jump on it very very quickly okay number two of my tips is set your location preferences and the location preferences might be close or far away depending on what you’re looking for so Facebook Marketplace lets you customize um the search radius around your location so it’ll get you one pinpoint area and then it’ll do a circle radius around where you’re located so that if you don’t want to travel 30 m away to get something it Narrows that search and does the search just in the area that you are willing to go to so for a couple of things um for larger items um like patio furniture a smaller radius can save on travel and transportation costs especially if there’s any kind of delivery fee linked to that however I find that if it’s something I really want and haven’t been able to find it I anywhere else I will open up my um search space I will expand my my radius to see what other areas might have another thing is if your seller is far away um you can ask if they’re willing to meet halfway or if they would be willing to deliver for a fee um I’ve never actually I take it back I did do that I did that for the wood cabinet that’s out on the back patio um I have like a little wooded cabinet that I have a bunch of stuff in I did have them um deliver and it’s because I did not have access to a truck at at that point in time and I forget why I didn’t have access to my minivan um definitely have a friend with a truck for the bigger items it’s very helpful it’s important to remember another thing is when you’re out about traveling so you’re in a different city for your son’s basketball game or you’re going to take a trip down to San Antonio or you’re going to do this or that be sure to open up Facebook Marketplace when you’re in those different areas and cities to see what they might have while you’re there um that’s always a really good way to find some usual things that might not necessarily be located in your particular [Music] area Okay number three of my tips is negotiate prices and I say this with a green of salt because kindness and politeness will get you way further on Facebook Marketplace than anything else so bargaining is pretty much expected on Facebook Marketplace it’s rare that when I’m sell selling something that somebody doesn’t try to bargain the price with me um but it’s always important to Res um approach it respectfully um and politely right so for example something is listed for $50 right you want to go in and very politely would you accept $40 all right now I have load balled in the past and typically if I’m in a low ball it’s because something has been listed for a long long time on Facebook Facebook Marketplace or it literally says you know have to get rid of must go today any offer accepted you know make me an offer blah blah blah that’s when I typically will go in and little ball if it’s an item that it’s already $50 and it doesn’t say and it was just listed I’m not going to go in and be like would you take 20 typically I will go in and would you accept $40 nice and polite I never just send $40 question mark totally rude disrespectful shows a disinterest and will Super annoy the Facebook Marketplace seller but most sellers leave room in their price for negotiating so um but you need to be realistic and you need to be fair don’t try to just take advantage straight away really consider the item if they’ve got it priced at $50 you think it’s worth $30 go ahead and offer that that’s fine but be prepared for a no um if it’s something you really want also be prepared to go in there and pay full price to get it right away but but lowballing right off the bat might ruin your um chances especially if an item is newly listed and popular um and we’ll talk about some items later on that are very popular in Facebook Marketplace and when you see them you just need to jump on them and if you’re willing to pay the price just pay the full price okay so if a seller is firm on their price consider asking if they will include extr such as additional guarding tools or accessories so here’s the deal when you’re on Facebook Marketplace and hopefully I can put some screenshots up to show you um there’ll be a seller someone’s selling something and you can literally click on that seller’s information and see what other items they are also selling at the same time so quite frequently you can bundle together some items so if they’re not willing to go down on the price maybe you can be like hey how about this and this for this price and that would knock out two of their items and they might be willing to come down a little bit on the um costs [Music] okay number four of my tips is check item quality before committing and I think that this is something that I have struggled with in the past because I have a hard time um saying no or changing my mind for someone um so it look really pretty in the picture and then I get there and then the size is all wrong or it smells bad or the measurements aren’t what I thought or you know just it just and a lot of times in the past I would have just just would have just bought it right because I felt bad so I’m not like that anymore I’ve been doing this a long time now so definitely you want to check things out before you’re committing so with that not all listings will include detailed photos or descriptions so that’s super important I run into a lot of listings that have one photo and like literally a minimal sentence if there is a sentence at all so don’t be afraid um and don’t hesitate to ask sellers for close-up photos especially if the item is a higher priced item it’s also okay to ask for measurements if they’re not willing to give you the measurements or a close-up photo it wasn’t meant to be it totally wasn’t meant to be and that’s okay I also think if you really want the item but the seller is not giving you the measurements or more pictures then just schedule to go see the item and if you walk up to it it’s not what you thought you can leave you don’t have to pay them you don’t have to take the item I wish somebody had told me that 10 years ago you don’t have to take that item but definitely take the time to look through your item before paying for it okay for wood items you want to look out for signs of rot or insect damage um and I also say if you’re not a smoker for wood items or fabric items you want to smell for smoke um just to make sure that that’s not something you’re going to bring in your house or garden if you don’t want to have that smell some people don’t care I do I’m highly allergic so I don’t want to smell cigarette smoke whatsoever for metal you’re going to be looking at any kind of rust in different areas now I actually like some really rusty metal stuff for my garden but you definitely want to look at um the level of rust and make sure you’re not going to have something fall apart within a few months of purchasing them when inspecting in person it’s really good to bring gloves and wipes um and that’s just in case the items are really really dirty or maybe you want to test out some tools or moveable parts or something like that so having gloves for something that’s really dirty maybe you have to dig it out of their backyard or whatever to protect your hands and then having wipes to clean your hands also but to wipe down different parts um of Whatever item you might be buying to make sure it looks good under all the dirt or dust and definitely try um any movable Parts move them around turn things on plug it in whatever you need to do to make sure that your item fully Works before pain [Music] okay and number five on my tips which is I think my most important tip is act fast for popular items I used to be someone who would hem haul around on Facebook Marketplace I don’t know I’ll think about it and I’ll text them in the morning it’s gone the popular items are already gone so if you see them on Facebook Marketplace and you want them be willing to jump on it right away so if you want it be prepared to pay full price and act quickly never ask them to hold it for days never ask them to do that if you want that item you need to be willing to get in your car right then and go get it don’t ask them you know oh hey I really want this I’m out of town I’ll be back in three days can you hold it till then no no don’t do that I never hold anything on Facebook Marketplace it legit is first come first serve cash only that’s how I roll so it’s something that you really want be willing to just jump on it right away pay the full price drive out and get the item right away do not give anybody else the opportunity to warm their way in because it happens and it happens quite a bit it’s happened to me multiple times I’ll be like hey I’m gonna pick up my kid and then I’m going to come out there and that’s like three hours away and in that three hours the seller messages me back and it’s like H hey I had somebody else they paid me $5 doll more and came and got it right away gone gone out the door and I’m just like I really wanted that it’s lots of items that like I’ll never see again so Garden related items especially those in good condition can sell within hours um it’s rare that they sit online typically January is a big time of year for Stuff selling gardening wise and that’s because a lot of people are cleaning things out it’s where we see a lot of estate sales garage sales happening a lot of people who are just trying to downsize or minimal minimize all the items that you have so January February are excellent times to be shopping for gardening stuff online so if you spot something send a polite message to the seller immediately so typically on there it says something like is this item still available question mark and you can it’s already written on there and you can just send it right away instead of just sending that send something like hi my name’s Amanda is this item still available I would really love to come pick it up as soon as possible right so I said something really nicely this is me I’m a real person is the item still available can I come get it ASAP because I really really want it right and that expresses a lot more interest than being one of 20 who’s messaged them is this item still available you stand out you show a commitment to really wanting the item and most likely there’s a chance that that Facebook seller will bump you up the list now to save time during busy season in January February those are really busy seasons for gardening so April and May you might see a little bit more as well um but to save time you might might want to keep cash on hand or use a cash app whichever you’re more comfortable with I prefer to have cash to do cash um I don’t want to do the cash app if I don’t have to um but if you confirm ahead of time with a seller you can do it that way I never pay with a cash app ahead of time to a seller before I’ve seen the item or have the item in my hands do not pay ahead of time all right you get there you see the item you confirm that you want it then you make your payment if they’re all like no you have to pay to hold it I’m out I’m not going to do that so I just don’t want to risk it my money is too important to me okay so the five tips that worked really good number one use specific Search terms number two set location preferences number three negotiate prices number four check them check item quality before committing and number five act fast for popular items and that brings me right into the most sought-after gardening items on Facebook marketplace now I have been shaping I have been shopping at Facebook Marketplace pretty seriously for at least four to five years definitely more seriously the last two years I am toning it down a little bit now because my garden is filling out and I’m getting I already have a lot of the items that I’m going to need for the time being but I want to talk to you guys about the stuff that I see that is most popular and that flies off like it’s immediately purchased as soon as it’s posted so number on the list is vintage metal furniture oh my gosh to find vintage metal furniture it’s tough so it’s just not made anymore right there’s only a set amount of it and um finding in good condition is really hard too so this is um the metal furniture is perfect for rustic or cottage style Gardens you can find love seats chairs tables all different kinds of stuff but that seems to be very popular don’t be deterred by its color if you truly wanted you can paint it a different color or you can have it professionally sand blasted back to the original metal um vintage metal furniture is worth the investment tends to be a little bit expensive but um you’ll probably have it for the rest of your life next in the list is large Planters and I say large Planters with a grain of salt if they put large planter in there and it doesn’t have a size ask for the size because some people think a large planter is 12 in x 12 in x 12 that’s a small to medium planter for me when I think big planter I mean big planter like I want a big giant planter and terracotta ceramic and concrete PL Planters are hot Commodities especially the concrete Planters um vintage concrete Planters those will fly right out the door um I also when I’m purchasing Planters or containers from somebody else if it has soil in there I confirm ahead of time that I don’t want the soil I don’t want their soil I want to leave it wherever it is can they dump it out ahead of time or can I dump it out when I get there I don’t want to bring insects or whatever they’ve got going in their garden and introduce that into my garden so definitely remember that dump it all out put it in your car whatever and wash it off when you get home before introducing it to the rest of your garden number three on the list garden tools um specifically handels shovels wheelbarrows and especially any of them with a vintage aesthetic and um I don’t shop a lot of gardening tools per se on Facebook Marketplace I prefer to shop that at estate sales um because that’s when I find the best um vintage stuff um but you can definitely find a lot of it on Facebook Marketplace it is a little bit harder to do when you’re shopping for that remember to use those specific branding terms for the different tools that you might be um looking for okay number four is outdoor decor items like windchimes garden sculptures and bird baths are always on demand and they are always sold very very quickly um they’re just tough to find and if you can buy them for even a little bit less on Facebook Marketplace it’s such a savings that most people try to turn that direction I also find that the ones I find on Facebook Marketplace garden decor I found a lot of DIY and handmade stuff which I love I think that is fabulous so definitely keep an eye out for that when you’re searching okay and last is patio furniture and I do have that different from the vintage metal furniture but just standard patio furniture outdoor chairs and tables hammocks all very um popular especially in spring and summer so spring and summer is a really hard time to go and shop for gardening stuff on Facebook Marketplace you want to shop the offseason you want to shop in January right um like I said that’s when people are cleaning stuff out spring and summer is typically where I see roadside f um it’s typically someone got out and they’re working on their garden and they’re doing something and they decided I don’t want this item and they put it out on the side of the road so I think that spring and summer are the best time for roadside finds okay I love Facebook Marketplace and I love talking about this stuff and I love a deal and I love finding something unique and interesting for a great price and I literally can walk through my garden maybe I should just do a video um sometime of me walking through my garden and be like I got this for Facebook Marketplace for this much and I got this from the side of the road and I got this and just walk out there and show you how much of my garden is actually from thrifted garage roadside and Facebook Market side find Facebook Marketplace finds okay and then just to get your brain going let’s talk through some unique items that you can upcycle for your garden because I think that it’s really hard to kind of look at a Facebook Marketplace post and be like I can make that into something so let’s go over a few different ideas um number one old ladders um they can be transformed into vertical garden or plant stands by putting pots on the rungs just a really unique kind of fun thing also adds a lot of height to your garden and it doesn’t have to be a wood ladder it can also be the vintage metal ladders and you can paint them and you can do tons of cool stuff um next vintage bird baths um use as the quirky raised bed planter even if they’re broken I have a bird bath outb that’s broken that I just have to get the cement stick stuff like it’s a special glue um to put it back together and it should be fine um broken bird baths really great too because you can take just the bowl and put it down into your garden and utilize it that way um but they’re a really fun way to add some interest to your garden next broken terracotta pots you can create mini fairy gardens or shards it’s decorative mulch um you can also take uh shards and put them at the bottom of containers to help with drainage don’t turn away from terracotta Potch just that are broken just make sure you’re getting them for a very small inexpensive price if not free next worn out kitchen wear so teapots colanders or even old baking trays can be Planters and bird baths um I saw somebody who used a whole bunch of um uh bunt plant pans as uh as planters which I thought was just super cute and super fun so definitely keep your eye out pictures things like that anything that can hold a plant or hold tools and organize different stuff in your garden space I’m doing a lot of hand talking today next on the list is bicycle frames you can use it as a trellis for a high a climbing plant and add a basket with flowers and of course when you think of a b bike you just think of it sitting upright but don’t forget you can turn it on the vertical secure it to A rod a a a metal rod or a fence or something and allow it to be a beautiful trellis for a plant next is old window window and doors and I’ve definitely done this in my garden create cold frames or closes for seedlings doors are excellent for vertical garden backdrops or Gates I have a vintage door um that goes into my shave Garden absolutely love it really really fun and a great way to repurpose some of those especially if um those items already have damage to them and that most likely a lot of people are just throwing them away all right also wooden crates and pallets um you can create stackable Planters or storage for tools with um the uh crate and then with the palletes you can create vertical Planters compost bins or rustic furniture I’ve seen a lot of that um on like Pinterest and on social media Outlets next is chandeliers hanging planters or bird feeders um I’ve always wanted to do a shandel layer filled with succulents I thought it would be really fun maybe we’ll broo that someday we’ll see I would do it with lots of colorful beads and crystals I think it would be super cool the next one is one of my favorite headboards or bed frames excellent for trellis decorative Gates and backdrops I get questions all the time about the headboard that I have are the trellis that I use for my Don Juan climbing rows it is an old headboard um that I bought on Facebook market place for not much at all way less expensive than any kind of trellis that size and I actually think it looks way better um but I love headboards and I think that they’re a great opportunity to really add some Whimsy to your garden uh broken chairs you can remove the seat make a planter out of it I’ve got like three or four broken chairs in the back that I’ve used for Planters in the past and that would I would like to reinvigorate for some succulent and Cactus planters that I would not run uh irrigation to so I’d like to do that this next year we’ll see if I I’ve been wanting to do that for two years we’ll see if I get to it uh next cinder blocks rocks or bricks are perfect for borders retaining walls are even furniture and I actually have a big pile of rocks I think I showed it on a video one time that one of my neighbors was just getting rid of all these decorative rocks that he had in the front of his yard so my husband and I just went and picked him up for free and no problem at all that happens quite frequently on Facebook Marketplace you have to be willing to put in the work to get the items especially if they’re giving them away for free um but Old Brick is really really great for running any pathway or edging any Gardens cinder blocks are really good for raising things up or building retaining walls or rocks there’s all kinds of stuff out like that you just got to be willing to jump on it and be willing to do labor yourself and finally baskets um wicker or wire can be uh lined and used as planters I actually get quite a few baskets from the thrift store and I use LINE them with trash bags and I use them as planters all the time it’s a great way a lot of those baskets are like a dollar or two and I don’t think real people realize how much from thrift stores it’s like 80% of what you see in a thrift store actually does end up in the um landfill so I mean I have gotten comments in the past they like oh you were in that basket I’m like no I gave that basket a second life because it was on its way to a landfill so um you can definitely use items like that even if they’re not going to last for forever and ever like a whis wicker basket might um just giving it a few years and good use during that time is just way better than it just ending up in a trash heat okay I felt like I talked faster and faster as I went on through this video just because I find so much joy in searching Facebook Marketplace and this has been a very requested video and I’m very excited to share all my tips and tricks with you so that you can start finding awesome stuff for yourself I will say out of all the things on here the two that are the most important is save those um searches when you’re looking for something important save the search and set yourself a notification Facebook will send you a notification when something is listed for the first time that’s within your search very very important sometimes I get those at 11:30 you know midnight when it gets listed and I jump on it immediately because I’m a nightl and then the second thing is act fast for the popular items act fast if it’s something you really want be willing to pay for and be willing to get your backside over there as soon as possible to pick it up all right so I would love to hear if any of y’all have found some awesome stuff on Facebook Marketplace whether it’s gardening or not I shop for a lot of things on Facebook Marketplace but I would love to hear some of your gardening finds would be really great as always make sure you like and comment on this video every time you guys like and comment it helps grow my channel so much and if you don’t 1. Fantastic ideas! My hubby thought I was a bit crazy when I told him I wanted a cast iron headboard to put as a backdrop behind my garden roses. 😆 I searched and searched and found a beautiful one at a thrift store for about $30! I love it 🥰 My dream would have been old cast iron garden gates but the only ones I'd find were ridiculously expensive.

  2. Good ideas. I have had only 2 purchase on the Facebook Marketplace and had good experiences. I read the listings and took their word for the price and offered that price and that was that. I met them where they requested and it was done. I do have a friend who sells on Facebook Marketplace all the time and she says that anytime anyone asks for a lower price, or for delivery, or anything that is not in her listing she immediately says no and refers them to the listing. She says she finds it disrespectful for people to not thoroughly read the listing before asking questions. If it's not in the listing like, "price negotiable" or "ask about delivery" or "will combine listings"….don't ask. If someone says they will buy it she gives them 24 hours to meet her and pay or she blocks them and moves on. She has one location she meets people and makes it clear in the listing. She has blocked people who basically harass her with multiple messages asking too many questions or if they ask to come to her house or of she can meet them someplace else. I guess everyone does it differently and at the end of the day it's just like a big garage sale, no big deal. But, I recommend reading the listings carefully and follow the seller's lead on the "vibe" of the sale. 🙂 After all that I feel the urge to go do some shopping:)
