Arighty, so I usually don't work in my office since I'm an instructor off-site. This thing was doing well up until about three months ago (last time I was on campus).

I took a chance and asked my boss if I could take this and the Snake Plants that were dying. She said yes with the caveat of bringing them back if I get them back to thriving.

For this one, I genuinely have no idea who or what was caring for it or how it was cared for. I've cleared off the brown leaves and I don't see any signed of green on the stalk. My boss did tell me that this tree is several years old and came from another instructor who has since retired.

It appears to be severely root bound but I can't figure out what else is/could be wrong with it. It is currently in a pot with drainage. I'm in the process of looking in my pot collection for one big enough if it needs to be replanted.

So, let me know! What do you think I should do or should this plant to go into the waste bin?

Note: I live in the deep SE of the US. I've thought about putting it outside in the humidity and sun to see if that does anything.

Water Habits: Unknown, see above.

Scratch it in some spots to see if there’s any life in it. And cut off everything that no longer lives.
IF there is any green still left under the bark anywhere:
Give it a good drench and let the excess water drain out then place it in bright indirect light and give it time. 🤞

The thing is what’s going to happen to them if you do nurse them back to life? It seems like the people in your office are neglecting these plants – even if they get revived, they will probably die again once it goes back to the office

    This isn’t a long shot…its a moonshot.

  4. Worth saving? I don’t know.
Possible? Maybe. This plant is very resilient and the last leaf doesn’t look fully brown yet (but you won’t be able to save this leaf).

Honestly try, we thought we had a lemon tree stump that was dead for 2 years but no lol

Chop it, wax it to seal it, and mayyyybe she will sprout out on the side. It’s worth checking the roots though, if they are dead/rotten there’s no point in trying
